🏆 My first RETRO KART CHAMPIONSHIP VICTORY! 🏆
After a successful meeting at the gearbox festival at Fulbeck earlier on in the year, I had high hopes that I could have a repeat of my success.
After having the Friday afternoon and Saturday practicing, we had our first heat on the Saturday afternoon.
With very interchangeable weather it was questionable as to if it was going to rain. But the whole grid was on slicks so it would be an even competition if it did start to pour.
Heat 1:
P7 - P3
As we had 3 rolling laps I had a decent amount of time to gauge what the track was like.
After making good ground off of the start I had gained two positions on the first lap and then continued to find my groove in the ever changing conditions.
Half way through the race the conditions resumed to completely normal before it once again, rained.
With a strong finish it was a very positive start to the weekend.

Heat 2:
P15 - P3
After a fantastic start I had gained 7 places on the first lap alone!
After then finding my groove I worked my way through the pack and continued to put in the fastest laps of race as it went on.
After making my way through to 3rd it was then a case of hunting down the top two as they were having a good scrap.

Heat 3:
P3 - P2

After getting into P2 in the early laps of the race I was then continuously hunting down the leader.
After a very good battle with the leader for many laps I made a move into the left hander before the final hairpin and managed to hold the position for 2 laps before I was then beaten to the top corner and retained 2nd to the finish.

THE FINAL!!!!!
P3-P1🏆

After a bit of a poor start I dropped down to P4. However after a very good scrap I got up into P3 and I was then on the hunt to get further up the podium.
A lap later I was up into P2 and had my work certainly cut out to hunt down P1.
With a 3.9 second gap I really needed to get my head down and try to work forward.
With trying to get the most out of the kart I was consistently putting in the fastest laps of the race running around half a second faster a lap than the leader.
On the very last lap I caught up to the leader and managed to maximise my run onto the start finish straight. After watching the leader and now the approached the top corner for several laps, I had planned my ideal overtake and went for it…
I took the widest line on entry possible to maximise my line and get the cut back, after meeting side by side with the leader in the middle of the corner I managed to make the cut back work and get the best run down into the chicane to take the leader around the outside.
After defending for the remainder of the lap I FINALLY WON THE RACE!!!!

I want to say a huge thank you to the support system I have. Especially my dad, Matt Fells. The hard work, man hours and the effort to perfection that always goes into my kart for many hours during late evenings I will be forever grateful. What you work so unbelievably hard for i am so glad I finally managed to make it all worth it.
