Formby is one of the top links courses in the world and boasts amazing scenery, surprising tranquillity and a charming clubhouse; just some of the reasons why many visitors return year after year. Few golfing destinations can rival Formby for the beauty of the course, the variety of the holes and its all year round playability. Formby is truly one of the world’s finest Championship links golf courses. Throw in spectacular scenery, a historic clubhouse, a wonderful restaurant with stunning panoramic views over the course and warm, welcoming bar, it’s little wonder this fabulous golf club seduces so easily.

Last weekend the club were delighted to win the prestigious Selwyn Lloyd Bowl for the fourth time in the competition’s history, adding the 2026 title to previous successes in 1971, 2011 and 2024.

The Selwyn Lloyd Bowl is a long-established inter-club foursomes competition, first played in 1969 as part of Royal Liverpool’s centenary celebrations. It has retained its traditional format throughout — three scratch foursomes pairs in a knockout match-play tournament over a weekend, bringing together 16 invited clubs from across the region.

Congratulations to all the players who represented the club: Geoff Harris, Tom Hughes, Jack Shelley, Joe Shelley, Anthony Stirling and Kristian Taylor.

While our course is littered with stunning holes, the 9th is arguably the most photographed by visitors.

With its elevated tee shot and backdrop of dunes and pines, it's easy to see why.

Our clubhouse is more than a second home for members or a guest bedroom - it's somewhere we're genuinely proud to maintain, from the history on the walls to the hospitality within.

Our first four holes are more heathland than links, including the long 3rd.

While there's no dunes to navigate on this hole, the goal on this par 5 is clear: avoid the many pot bunkers.
