The footnote re single hacks is equally important to the points on minutes. Does the proposer fully appreciate the impact this would have on local rinks? How many of our local curlers could adapt to a single centre hack, who pays for the cost of replacement, etc, etc, etc..

It's that time of year again! And I'm here to stir the pot, again!
We're only a couple of weeks away from the AGM of the Royal Caledonian Curling Club, and I suspect many of you thought you had escaped having to vote this year. Unfortunately for you, I'm here to remind you otherwise!
If you haven't already done so, please check your inbox for the AGM voting information sent on Friday, 5th June and take a few minutes to exercise your right as a member.
For as long as most of us can remember, AGM minutes have provided a detailed record of proceedings, allowing members who could not attend to understand exactly what was discussed, what questions were asked, the answers given and why decisions were reached.
The draft minutes presented for approval are far from the verbatim account that we have come to expect. Rather than recording the discussion in detail, they provide a condensed summary and, in places, appear to offer an interpretation of what was said and what members were thinking!
That concerns me.
Minutes should be an accurate record of proceedings, not a retrospective interpretation of events.
Equally concerning is that such a significant change in the style and detail of AGM reporting appears to have been introduced without consultation or approval from the membership.
I would therefore encourage every member to read the draft minutes carefully before casting their vote.
Ask yourself:
• Do these minutes provide an adequate record of the meeting?
• Do they fairly reflect the discussion that took place?
• Are you comfortable with this becoming the standard for future AGM records?
If your answer to any of those questions is "No", then I would urge you to vote against approving the minutes and ask that they be revised.
The AGM minutes are the Club's record of events, and as members we have both the right and the responsibility to ensure they are accurate and are a true record of our clubs meetings.
Please take the time to vote.
