Strathmore Rugby Club Youth Sharks Pathway to Senior

As we reflect on the opening two weekends of the national senior competitions for both our 1st XV and Caledonia 2nd XV, it is worth asking the question:

Is our pathway from youth rugby to senior rugby working?

Over the first two weekends of the season, we have seen the benefits of years of hard work, dedication and commitment from players, coaches, volunteers and parents throughout the club.

Across our two senior teams, 18 former Sharks players have represented Strathmore. That is a remarkable achievement and clear evidence that our youth pathway is producing players capable of competing and succeeding at senior level.

At Lasswade, we witnessed a special moment when a former Sharks U18 captain crossed for the winning try, underlining the impact our young players are now having on the senior stage.

This past weekend, 16 former Sharks players pulled on the black jersey to represent Strathmore once again. In another dramatic finish, it was a former Shark who secured possession in the closing stages, leading to the crucial penalty against Orkney. That created the opportunity for ever-present Fraser Mackay to calmly slot the winning kick at the death.

These moments do not happen by accident. They are the result of years of development, encouragement, friendship and hard work throughout our club.

We have a great deal to be proud of at Strathmore and of everything our Sharks programme has achieved. While some age groups may currently be experiencing a period of transition and, in some cases, a temporary pause, the foundations remain stron

With good people, hard work and a shared commitment to our club values, we will continue to develop, grow and bring everything back together.

The future remains bright for Strathmore Rugby Club, and we look forward to seeing the next generation of Sharks make their mark in the black jersey.

The U13’s travelled to Falkirk for first league game of the season. A great spirited team performance from the team where each player worked for each other and backed each other up. Some good work from the forwards gaining yards followed by a ball out to the backs saw us score our opening try if the season. The team spirit grew as the game went on and some great play and linking up seen us score some more tries. A great day out for the boys with some improvements to take to Wednesdays session. We have players who are still learning and some who are experienced all helping each other improve. A great team performance and a big thank you to Falkirk rugby for there hospitality and a good game played in a positive fun environment.

🏉 A fantastic start to the season for the Strathmore Sharks! 🦈

Today, our Micros, P4/5 and P6/7 teams travelled to Montrose for their first matches of the season, joining teams from Brechin and Arbroath for a brilliant day of rugby.

A huge thank you to Montrose for hosting and to everyone involved in making the day such a success.

A massive well done to our fantastic Sharks contingent across all age groups — there was some brilliant rugby on display, with plenty of enthusiasm, teamwork and smiles all round! 💙🦈🏉

We’re incredibly proud of every single player. What a great way to kick off the season!

Without a full team, our u18 boys ventured to Aberdeen this weekend wondering what it would hold for them. Aberdeen Wanderers kindly loaned us a few players to play a game of 13 aside. Our Strathie boys went out and showed their strengths and came away with a win.

Thankyou to Aberdeen Wanderers for hosting us and for the loan players making the match possible!

We are actively recruiting so if you want to join the Strathie Sharks under 18s team please get in touch, training Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Matchday Saturday!

Looking for a fun, active and welcoming activity for your little one this weekend? Why not give Strathie Pups a go? Our next block starts this Sunday! 🎉

🏉 What is Strathie Pups?

Strathie Pups is a fun introduction to rugby for little ones aged 2–5. Our sessions are non-contact, delivered by qualified coaches and designed to be safe, structured and, most importantly, lots of fun!

Through games, activities and age-appropriate rugby skills, children can develop:

⭐ Confidence
⭐ Listening and following instructions
⭐ Turn-taking and patience
⭐ Fine and gross motor skills
⭐ Teamwork and communication

And you don’t need to be a rugby family to join us! Parents and carers are encouraged to get involved too, making it a great way to be active and have fun together. ❤️

📅 Sunday mornings – Forfar

🕤 9.45am–10.15am – Ages 2–3.5
🕥 10.30am–11.15am – Ages 3.5–5

📍 Sessions are held outdoors at Strathmore Rugby Club during the summer and indoors at Forfar Community Campus during the winter.
