🌊 September at The Beach Box… what's not to love? 🏖️

September brings a different kind of beach day. The crowds have gone, the beaches are quieter, and there’s often still plenty of warmth in the sea. 💙

Imagine having your own little base by the water for the day — somewhere to leave your things, make a cuppa, meet friends, bring the family, watch the waves or simply sit and enjoy the peace.

🏊‍♀️ Warm(ish) sea
🌾 Quieter beaches
☕ Time to slow down
🌊 Perfect for a swim
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Space to enjoy together
🐚 And those beautiful early autumn beach days

The Beach Box is a not-for-profit community pilot project, operating with permission from Scottish Borders Council, with the aim of making beach hut hire more accessible and affordable for local residents and visitors.

💙 Just £20 for the day, with all income helping cover running costs and support the future development of the project.

And if September is calling you to the coast, why not make a day of it?

🌊 Slow Sunday Socials

Sometimes you don't need to rush.

Just time for you, the sea and a few lovely people. 💙

Our Slow Sunday Socials are about stepping away from the noise, breathing in some fresh sea air, having a chat, a laugh, a swim if you fancy it — and simply enjoying being by the water together.

No pressure.
No expectations.
No racing the clock.

Just you, the sea and a few people who get it. 🌊

Come as you are. Swim in skins, wetsuit, neoprene — whatever makes you comfortable. It's about enjoying the water, finding your people and taking a little time for yourself.

Slow Sundays. Sea time. Social time. You time. 💙

We’re delighted to be joining Berwickshire Marine Reserve for the Great British Beach Clean and Great Global Nurdle Hunt at Coldingham Bay.

This is open to everyone — families, local residents, visitors and anyone who loves our coastline. 💙

Together, we’ll collect litter and record valuable citizen science data for the Conservation Society, including surveying a 100m stretch of beach and counting nurdles.

27th September 2026 Coldingham Bay.

📍 Meet at the Community Beach Hut around 10am — the first hut on the left as you walk towards the beach.

🧤 All equipment provided. Please dress appropriately for the weather and wear suitable closed-toe footwear.

Come along, meet others, learn more about our marine environment and help make a real difference to the place we all enjoy.

Partnerships, participation and practical action — this is what community-led change looks like. 🌊

🌿 A fantastic achievement for Linzi Betts! 💙💚

We’re delighted to share that Linzi has successfully completed her FOLA 8 Forest and Outdoor Learning Leadership Award at SCQF Level 8 through Newbattle Abbey College. 🎉
(With support from Capital City Partnership IEE funding, ESES City Region).

FOLA 8 has been about so much more than gaining a qualification. Linzi has developed her practical skills and knowledge in Forest and Outdoor Learning, tailoring it to the coastal environment while exploring lifelong learning, community education and the powerful connection between nature and wellbeing.

A huge thank you to Donna, Sam and the wider team at Newbattle Abbey College, the other students on the course and ofc the Coldingham Brave Bayers.

We’re especially proud that Linzi’s reflections and practical examples have been recognised by Newbattle Abbey College and Big Wild Life, who have asked to use some of her words and examples to help describe and promote the FOLA courses.

And now, that learning comes back into our community. 🌿

Linzi and Coldingham Brave Bayers CIC are developing the Blue & Green Adventure Club, creating opportunities for adults aged 18–80 to learn, explore, build practical skills, qualifications, connecting with others and improve wellbeing through blue and green adventures.

And we’re already seeing the impact from the pilot

One participant told us:

“Loved the flexibility to adapt to weather. Great group who were happy to share knowledge. Loved that we had books to refer to. Never done stone painting, T-shirt dying or seaweed pressing before… loved it.”

That little piece of feedback says so much about what we’re trying to achieve.

Trying something new.
Learning from each other.
Building confidence and skills.
Adapting to the environment.
Connecting with nature.
And having fun along the way.

This is what holistic development looks like in practice.

💙 Blue spaces
💚 Green spaces
🧭 Skills & learning
🤝 Community
🌿 Wellbeing
🌊 Adventure
💙Employability

18–80 — because there’s no age limit on learning, developing friendship, adventure or discovering something new.

And this is only the beginning.

Follow Coldingham Brave Bayers CIC as we build our Blue & Green Adventure Club and see where the journey takes us. 💙
