A night celebrating our incredible 1st XV ❤️
Ant & Dec (Dru & Lowey) handed over the hosting baton to Mini Ant & Dec (Stef & Moff), while Wrighty & Craigy dipped in and out presenting awards & of course dishing out the yearly 🍻
Clarky presented the majority of the awards and spoke brilliantly about his team & his love for the club, while Phill delivered yet another belting poem👏
We say it a lot, but where this team was 18 months ago compared to where it is today is unbelievable. From being one game away from pulling out of the league due to availability issues, to finishing this season just one win away from promotion.
That turnaround is down to an unbelievable group of players, coaches, presidents, volunteers and everyone who gives their time to the Wheats.
THERE WERE SOME MASSIVE MOMENTS THIS SEASON:
🏉 Putting 50 on Nuneaton away without conceding a try
🏉 Grinding out a one-point away win at Atherstone
🏉 Doing the double over local rivals Keresley, Stoke & Pinley
🏉 A performance of the season contender at home to Handsworth before Christmas
Like every season, there were lows too. Heavy away defeats to Bedworth & Broadstreet never dented the boys spirit, while serious injuries to Mann, Oddy, Burnsy, Reece & Moff ruled key players out for long spells. Losing skipper Fish for weeks was tough, but Gaz stepped up to lead the side.
Liam McCrea brought up 200 Wheats appearances while helping lead the young pack alongside Charlie, Tom Evans & the slightly older Leigh😉
Azzy McKain & workhorse Rob barely missed a game.
The social twins Stef & Moff ran the back row, joined by big Morgz & his terrifying carries. New boy Bainsey made his mark in both the front & back row and nobody has ever been happier to collect multiple Dick of the Day awards😂
The youngest, quickest & most skilful half-back pairing the Wheats has ever seen in Ethan & Matty J controlled games beyond their years. Gaz & Hancox formed a centre partnership full of sit-downs & managed just the 28 tries between them 👀
Fly Burdy Fly 🪽 tore it up on the wing in his first season, while Josh Mann returned from injury quicker than Bainsey can down a pint.
Big Stevo was a constant at 15, throwing dummies all over the gaff.
Whenever they pulled on the shirt, the Thorpe bros, Max, TJ, Aaron & Dan Vincent always gave 110%, while Conor Godber’s first season showed all the signs of a future Wheats legend 👏
Massive credit also to Coach Clarky & his sidekick Craigy. Plenty of praise when deserved, but a few strong words at the right times helped drive the boys on all season.
A hugely promising year for the Wheats and big things are happening at this club 👊🏻
ROLL ON NEXT SEASON…
AND A NEW SIGNING FROM ONE OF THOSE LOCAL RIVALS 😉
