We were incredibly sad to hear of the passing of local running legend Dave Phillips on 2nd June 2026. For those of you who didn’t know him, Dave was a phenomenal runner and fundraiser. Fondly known as “Marathon Man” he had completed over 500 marathons and raised over £150,000 for the Brain & Spine Foundation, for which he was awarded an MBE in 2019.
He became a member of Massey Ferguson RC in 1986 and over the years encouraged many new runners to join the club, myself included back in 2011.
He was a kind, supportive, enthusiastic and determined gentleman, sponsoring local events, running in local leagues, taking part in races across the UK & further afield, and even completing the whole of the Cotswold Hilly 100 in one go!
I feel incredibly proud that I ran quite a few races with him, and had his support with my running and the business over the years. I’m also honoured to say that we have the actual vest from his 300th marathon framed in the shop, a precious moment from April 2005 to look back on.
He was a wonderful character who will be greatly missed, but he will never be forgotten. Perhaps we could organise a running event in his honour? ❤️🤍
His funeral will be on Friday 3rd July at 12pm at Claverdon Church, Claverdon, CV35 8PD, with the wake held at the Red Lion nearby.
