I really loved catching up with a couple of parents tonight to discuss the best way to support their children's skill development.

Everyone learns in different ways and in their own time but we should set them challenges and give them all support to achieve these challenges

So tonight it was about how we can use videos so that they can see what the skill should look like in the water , along with filming their current ex*****on of the skill.

This gives them the visual learning model that works for them currently.

Child first swimmer second should be our coaching style.

So let's create the best environment for a childs development.

2 weeks today ,we will be getting ready for the Leicester swimming association Diddy League final.

8 squads from around the area will be swimming against each other at the final .The league is designed for swimmers aged 12yrs and under which gives them the opportunity to compete as a squad , where every placing matters,every point matters.

But what matters most is the child swimming ,it's the dealing with the event ,it's about dealing with the emotions, it's about dealing with being part of a squad.

All of which can impact their performance ,so let's not make it all about the end result , let's make it a learning opportunity, let's make about the effort they put in , let's make it about their development.

No matter the outcome , let's be proud of them.

Really looking forward to the 3rd "The Gathering"" in less than 2 weeks.

The energy the kids bring to the event is off the chart ,it will be a busy weekend with the gala being on Friday , Scotland kicking off our World cup campaign for the first time in 28 years followed by the Diddy League final gala on the Saturday.

All my favorite things in one packed weekend.

But I won't have it any other way

Sports has the ability to bring out the best in children,it teaches them life skills and creates memories that can stay with them for life

So let's make it a positive memory

The Gathering 2026, will be making a splash! On 19 June, Corby East Midlands International Pool welcomed local primary schools to celebrate skill, confidence and teamwork in our school swimming gala. I really enjoyed watching the Tata kids of steel triathlon today at the Corby East Midlands international swimming.

Over 1200 kids took part over the course of the day and what an event it was .

The determination ,the skill levels and the commitment to complete the triathlon was a joy to watch.

These events need loads of planning , volunteers , support from different organizations and most importantly kids that are willing to give it a go.

So to everyone that helped support and took part a massive

THANK YOU for bringing the event to the area.

As a coach I can really see a comparison to gardening.

When you get a young swimmer you need to plant the seeds of behaviors that will support their development.

Care for them comes next with the clear understanding that each one of them are different and they will all need different conditions to grow but always with the knowledge that you'll support them no matter how long it takes.

And finally they bloom and everyone thinks it just happened.But that swimmer has probably gone through an amazing amount of ups and downs that people don't see .

The garden is made of loads of different plants that all bloom in different times

Just like a squad ,they will all bloom at different times

I feel really privileged to be part of the coaching team delivering this year's Northants county swimming skills camp over half term.

The swimmers have been chosen due to their 200m IM times from the county championship's

There are two Age groups of swimmers born in 2013 and 2014 being invited to attend the camp.

As much as it's based on their swimming abilities it's more about them building new friendships, working on their communication skills and appreciating that they all have different skills and talents in and out of the pool.

Thanks to all the swimmers for making it a great few days
