Colchester Castle parkrun

Colchester Castle parkrun A free, weekly, timed 5k event every Saturday morning in Castle Park, Colchester. Everyone is welcome to walk, jog, run or volunteer! 🌳

parkrun is not a race against other runners, but a 5k timed run and it can really be whatever you want it to be, whether that's for fun or as part of a training plan. It offers an opportunity for all the local community, male or female, young or old, to come together on a regular basis to enjoy this beautiful park and get physically active into the bargain. We want to encourage people to jog or ru

n together irrespective of their ability – this event is truly open to all and best of all it really is FREE! Taking part is easy – just register before your first ever parkrun. The great thing is that you only ever need to do this once! Then just set your alarm for Saturday morning and get yourself there! After the run, if you don’t have to get off straight away, there will be the chance to socialise with everyone in the Putt in the Park café, to maybe swap stories about your run that day, chat to other runners over a cup of tea or coffee and just be an important part of this new running community. So whether you are a complete novice looking to get yourself started on your own "running journey" or a seasoned athlete wanting to use this as a part of your training schedule, you’re welcome to come along and join us.

Good evening parkrunners!

This is just a friendly reminder that due to the closure of Lower Castle Park, tomorrow we will be using the Duncan’s Gate route.

This route can get very congested and narrow in places, so please make sure that you arrive in plenty of time for the briefing and if you’re can’t remember/haven’t done this one before, please feel free to come to the first timers briefing too.

It looks like it may be a wet one, so make sure you give our wonderful volunteers some extra love on your way around.

Thanks, see you in the morning!

RD Nina

**ROUTE CHANGE - 6TH JUNE - DUNCANS GATE**

Really hope you enjoyed parkrun at the weekend and made the most of the wonderful weather. The stats show we had a lovely number of first timers and in the heat we still managed to get a few PBs too!

This coming weekend there is the Roman and Medieval Festival in the Lower Castle Park so we need to use our alternative route via Duncan's Gate. To make sure we can use this route safely we need plenty of volunteers!

I am looking for another 21 volunteers signed up to help us put on our parkrun this Saturday - are you able to help? Here are the roles we need to fill:
- Pre event setup x1 (you can run afterwards so you get a volunteer and running credit towards milestones)
- Post event close-down x1 (you can run beforehand so you get a volunteer and running credit towards milestones)
- Timekeeper x1
- Finish tokens x2
- Barcode scanning x4+ (if we have any runners sub25 ish then could you help post-run too?)
- Marshals x9
- Parkwalkers x2 (optional but a great way to help make parkrun inclusive and you get your volunteer and participation credit towards your milestones)
- Photographer - x 1 (as mentioned last week; an optional role but our runners love photos!)

Just drop a comment or email [email protected] with your offers of help!

Thanks in advance

Huge thanks to Headway Essex (https://www.facebook.com/headway.essex) and Boxted Runners (https://www.facebook.com/boxtedrunners) for providing all the volunteers and an amazing atmosphere at parkrun yesterday.

It was genuinely wonderful to see so many friends and family from these communities come together and join us at parkrun for a special morning.

Headway Essex help to improve life after brain injury. They provide vital support, rehabilitation, education and information services to brain injury survivors, their families, and carers.

Boxted Runners based at King Georges Field, Boxted were formed in 2017 and now have more than 150 members. You can spot their club colours (yellow with black logo) at many local events and they have a number of coaches who hold training sessions and social runs throughout the week.

Special thanks to Kelly at Headway, Tiffany from Boxted Runners , my daughter Emma and our very own Run Director George for helping keep me sane on a hot and busy morning.

We're already looking ahead to next weekend and could really do with some volunteer support to please get in contact if you can help Meera and Ben - the future roster is here so you can find the perfect role - https://www.parkrun.org.uk/colchestercastle/futureroster/
