Which saddle do you think the client chose? 👀🐴

At a recent saddle fitting, we tried this lovely horse in two different GP saddles:

1️⃣ Kent & Masters Low Wither GP
2️⃣ GFS Cob GP

Both looked good statically, but this is exactly why the ridden part of a saddle fitting is so important.

Once the rider was on board, one saddle allowed the horse to move with noticeably more freedom — and that made the decision much clearer.

When I’m helping a client find a new saddle, I always aim to find at least two suitable options to try where possible. It gives horse and rider a chance to compare balance, movement, comfort and feel, rather than choosing based on static fit alone.

You've got the horse, you've got the saddle, you've got the hat and the boots.
But be honest — how many times has a ride been quietly ruined by something tiny?
Soaking gloves, bunched up socks, soggy hat, the... discomfort... that set in about 45 minutes into a longer hack. 🙈

The big kit gets all the attention, but it's the small stuff that decides whether you come home buzzing or just done.

We’ve put together some of our favourite rider comfort essentials - the little things we never ride without:
🧤 Good gloves — grip, warmth and feel, all at once. The difference between relaxed hands and a white-knuckle hack.
🧦 Technical riding socks — length and cushioning in exactly the right places. Your feet and calves will thank you.
🩲 Riding underwear — trust us on this one, once you try them, you'll never go back.

🤠 Your riding hat might look absolutely fine… but that doesn’t always mean it’s still protecting you the way it should!

It’s one of those things most of us don’t think about until we really have to—but the truth is, riding hats have a lifespan, and a lot has changed in terms of safety and comfort over the years.

If it’s been a while since you last updated yours, here are 5 reasons it might be time to take a closer look:

1. Safety standards have moved on 🛡
Helmet technology has improved massively, with newer designs offering better protection in real-life riding scenarios—not just lab tests.

2. They don’t last forever ⌛
Even without a fall, the materials inside your hat gradually break down from everyday use, heat, sweat, and storage conditions. Most should be replaced every 3–5 years.

3. After a fall, it’s a must 💔
If your hat has taken any impact, it won’t protect you the same way again—even if there’s no visible damage.

🛍 Weekend Visitors at Saddle Up & Ride 🐴

We’ve had some very small customers exploring the tack shop this week… and they certainly made themselves at home! 🤍

From saddles and bridles to riding wear, hats and treats, they seemed very keen to inspect the stock (although we’re not convinced they intended to pay for anything!).

We absolutely love welcoming all kinds of horsey visitors to the shop — and these two definitely brought plenty of smiles with them.

The ponies are usually around the yard on Saturdays and Sundays too if anyone would like to come and say hello 👋🐴
