This winter and early spring we’re running two practical, outdoor-based courses:

✔ Outdoor First Aid – realistic first aid training for woodland and rural environments
✔ Lowland Expedition Leadership – planning, navigation, group management and leadership in lowland terrain

Both courses are delivered on the Kent Downs through a combination of indoor and outdoor sessions, using scenarios relevant to schools, outdoor instructors and expedition leaders.

Finishing on a high!
After four years serving on the BAIML Board as Conference & Regional Director, I’ve taken the difficult decision to step down.

With my business continuing to grow and our ongoing project that my wife Michelle and I are developing in The Gambia, I can no longer give the role the time and focus it deserves.

It has been a privilege to contribute to the association, support our members, and lead the planning and delivery of the Annual Conference & AGM over the past four years. I’m proud of what we’ve achieved together and will continue to support BAIML in any way I can.

And what a high note to finish on.

The BAIMLAnnual Conference has just wrapped up after two packed days of workshops, discussion, and community. This year’s programme included the AGM, a Q&A session, an inspiring general interest talk, and 20 workshops delivered both indoors and on the hill—covering a wide range of core skills, including content aligned with the new Union of International Mountain Leader Associations (UIMLA) standard.

A huge thank you to everyone involved:
• The team at Glenmore Lodge National Outdoor Training Center for hosting and supporting us
• Mountain Training UK & Ireland Admin Staff for their ongoing assistance
• All workshop providers for delivering high-quality CPD
• Dr Naomi Dodds for her excellent talk on her work with the Himalayan Rescue Association
• Our Board and members for their continued support

Planning is already underway for the 2026 Annual Conference & AGM.

As we zoom towards another glorious weekend. We take a moment to remember what a fantastic weekend we had last weekend.

Over 100 participants learnt a whole host of new skills, that they then put to good use on their Bronze DofE Practice Expedition.

Disengaged from SM, embracing the beautiful Kent countryside, spending time with friends and making new ones. All while enjoying the huge benefits that come with being outside, taking on a challenge and having an adventure.

Congratulations to all the participants on a very productive, fun two days and a huge thank you to all the staff from MGGS and Team ADTREX for all their support, professionalism and devotion to creating positive memorable moments for all of the participants.

Feeling very honoured to have presented this award at the Kent Teacher of the Year Awards 2025.

I have been teaching First Aid Courses for over 30 years and it’s stories like this that remind me of why I do it and how important First Aid skills are.

The Bradfields Academy Medical Team not only demonstrated that they have First Aid skills but that they had the confidence and courage to use them.

They justly deserved the standing ovation they were given when receiving this Special Recognition Award.
