Those wishing to take part in a session need to contact a coach to book a place. Once the booking is confirmed the participant can attend the session. Hygiene protocols are in place and must be followed by participants and spectators. Under 18s should be escorted to and from sessions by an adult. All sessions are mixed ability - novices, intermediates and advanced. Ju Jitsuka (people who do ju jit
su) train together irrespective of gender, age or ability. There is a session fee, payable at the time of booking or when attending. The fee includes a book to record progress in martial arts. Training uniforms (gi) can be obtained from a club coach. The club is able to obtain a discount from its suppliers. Gi can be obtained from any source you find suitable. The club's student (kyu) grades wear plain blue or plain white suits. Other colours are reserved for black belt (dan) grades only. As a throwing art we train on mats (tatami) in bare feet, socks are allowed. Street footwear is not worn when training on mats. As well as self defence and anti-bullying sessions the club runs in house competitions and specialised sessions. The BKJJA visit other venues for competitions and courses. Monday and Wednesday sessions at 730pm (for 90 minutes) are for ages 14+. Younger students can train if they have permission from a coach and are accompanied by an adult. Weather permitting this venue has outdoor sessions. Parents or guardians of under 18s can take part in any session their child or children are taking part in. Adults need to check with a coach if they can attend a session aimed at under 18s. Adult coaches are DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) checked and First Aid trained Adult coaches are insured as instructors with NAKMAS (www.nakmas.org.uk), which is the cub's governing body. All NAKMAS certified instructors are able to run classes without supervision. The BKJJA has three levels of instuctor, senior instructor (the club's head coach), instructors (1st Dan and higher - black belt), assistant instructors (3rd kyu - 1st kyu, blue belt to brown belt) .
