Another fantastic ICO Team England Squad Training session took place today at the USKA Fight Factory, with over 50 fighters in attendance all putting in the work as preparations continue for the upcoming World Championships in France.

Despite the muggy conditions, with rain outside and temperatures rising inside the gym, the squad showed great commitment and determination throughout the day.

We opened the session with reflex and reaction pad drills to get everyone switched on and moving before progressing into a deep flexibility session, including partner stretching led by USKA Coach Sami Kelly.

From there, attention turned to defensive tactics as we worked on solutions to some of the more problematic attacks competitors may face in competition. The squad then moved into a variety of themed padwork combinations, each designed to replicate different fight scenarios and tactical situations they may encounter on the mats and in the ring.

The physical side of the training concluded with a gruelling strength and conditioning circuit that squeezed every last drop of energy from those in attendance, with everyone digging deep and pushing through the fatigue.

At the conclusion of training, the squad gathered to observe a minute's silence in memory of ICO World Director for Traditional Karate and President of South Africa, James Vermaak, who sadly passed away this week.

Master James was a great martial artist, leader and gentleman who dedicated so much to our sport. He will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him and sharing time with him.

God Bless you, James. 🙏🏻

Our next ICO Team England Squad Training session will be held at the USKA Fight Factory on Saturday 4th July.

One of the most special awards we present at the USKA Fight Factory is our ‘Be Kind’ Certificate and sticker.

This award is earned by our USKA Ninjas when they go out of their way to show kindness, respect and consideration both in school and at home. Whether it’s being thoughtful towards teachers and classmates, helping their families, using good manners or simply showing care for others, these are the qualities we believe are just as important as any kick or punch.

At the USKA Fight Factory we constantly remind our young students that:
“In a world where you can be anything, always choose to be kind.”

This evening’s proud ‘Be Kind’ Award winners were 6 year old Abaan Choudhury and 8 year old Arisha .

Both children have shown fantastic attitudes and wonderful behaviour, making them truly deserving recipients of this special award.

A huge well done and congratulations to you both, keep being amazing role models!

Take a look at some footage from one of our Saturday Advanced Technical classes a few weeks back at the USKA Fight Factory, where the focus was on incorporating advanced techniques into our Kickboxing bagwork combinations.

These sessions are about far more than simply hitting the bag hard. Every strike is performed with purpose, with students concentrating on correct mechanics, strong defensive positions, balance, footwork and the ability to transition smoothly from one technique to the next.

A huge emphasis is placed on body positioning, pivots, weight transfer and recovery after each strike. By breaking techniques down in detail and then blending them into longer combinations, fighters gain a deeper understanding of how and why techniques work, helping to eliminate bad habits before they become ingrained.

Working extended combinations also provides tremendous conditioning benefits. Not only does it improve cardiovascular endurance, but it also develops timing, coordination, accuracy and power whilst teaching fighters to remain composed and technically sound as fatigue begins to set in.

Perhaps most importantly, it builds the confidence to execute complex combinations instinctively and effectively when it matters most.

Another fantastic session from the team with plenty of quality work on display throughout. Well done everyone!
