Busy night ahead for the club 👊

Conor Donnelly had a fantastic win last night to book his place in tonight’s finals along with clubmate James Kelly in the Antrims Seniors at the Crumlin Star.
Zara McCaughran received a walkover and Like Mooreglass lost out on a very close decision in his quarter final.

Kane Brannagan weighed in this morning in Dublin for his Irish U19 semi final as he takes on John Donoghue (Olympic) at the National Stadium.

Reminder the club will be closed tonight so no training. Training times back to normal on Monday 🥊

Bobby Spiers. RIP
The Holy Trinity Boxing Club, Turf Lodge learn with deep regret of the recent passing of one of Ulster and Irish boxing's finest ambassadors, Belfast referee and judge, Bobby Spiers. A highly respected official, he gave many years of long, dedicated service to the sport, officiating at everything from small club shows through to Senior/Elite championships up to International levels.
An astute judge at ringside, Bobby had a presence in the ring; he made refereeing look easy.
Sincere condolences to his wife Jean, and family, Ed, Bob, Gary, Amber and Jeff.
Another lasting memory will be of Bobby and his boxing sidekick, fellow official Paul Carson, kidding on and chuckling quietly away during breaks at shows and championships or on long, late car journeys coming back from meetings or the events at the National Stadium in Dublin, often with his great friend, former Ulster President, Pat McCrory, RIP.
Bobby was a terrific man to have met in life; a real gent and I know that his fellow boxing officials over the years, and his beloved Monkstown ABC, will share a deep sense of loss at the Newtownabbey man's passing.
God speed, Bobby. 🙏

UPDATE: to include original pic: FROM THE ARCHIVE: A blurred pic taken back in the '60's was given a bit of AI treatment this week. The results can be a bit hit and miss but there's no mistaking the Belfast boxing legend pictured front and centre. Winner of two Ulster Senior titles ('62 and '64) followed by an Irish title on Friday April 9 1964, this rock-solid boxer would compete at both Commonwealth and Olympic Games. It is of course, the former St Matthew's star, and Dockers club coach for decades, the great Paddy Fitzsimmons. Who else can you spot?

PICTURE THIS: Past, present and future fighters feature in this week's Holy Trinity boxing collage. The pics include budding young amateur stars, plus a brace of professional fighters (one vastly experienced and fully deserving of a shot at major title glory soon, the other starting out on his career and making a name for himself already, unbeaten in four bouts) and a former Holy Trinity ace, now excelling in the refereeing and judging side of the sport. How many can you name?

FROM THE ARCHIVE: Soccer’s loss was clearly boxing’s gain. Andersonstown southpaw star Jim Webb struck Gold at the 1994 Commonwealth Games in Victoria, Canada, as did Holy Family welterweight star, Neil Sinclair.
Light-middleweight ‘Webber’ is pictured soon after his return to Belfast receiving an award to mark his achievement from the staff of the local Northern Bank branch in A’town, alongside his Holy Trinity and Commonwealth Games coach, Michael Hawkins.
A recent post about boxers who were also excellent footballers highlighted Immaculata star, Seamus McGuinness.
The post got the ball rolling and fight fan John Matthews reckons ‘Webber’ also fits the bill.
He wrote: “Jim Webb was pretty good at the football too. Was talk of him going across the water, I think, cos he was playing a blinder at schoolboy level. Arsenal jumps into my head. Dunno why and I could be well off the mark.”
No, you were spot on John, as Webber, who began his boxing career with Oliver Plunkett ABC, confirmed: “100% right John. I was at Arsenal & played for the North of Ireland School Boys with Jim Magilton & Michael O’Neill. Life is good 💚🥊⚽️”
Soccer’s loss was clearly boxing’s gain.
