Very important message❣️
Heading to the Broads this bank holiday weekend? It's looking like a scorcher!
Our Rangers have some important reminders to help everyone stay safe on the water this weekend 👇
🦺 Remember to wear a life jacket, including children and pets, when aboard your boat or when out paddling.
⚠️ Jumping from your boat onto the moorings might look impressive, but it can be dangerous. We see many incidents of people misjudging the distance and ending up in the water.
🍻 If you’re drinking alcohol, take extra care near the rivers and never operate a vessel under the influence. Take extra care when getting on and off your boat!
🏊 Open water swimming outside organised events can be risky due to vessels and underwater obstructions - make sure you read up on the dangers and plan accordingly.
🚶 Always watch out for trip hazards on the quay, including ropes and mooring posts.
🔥 On particularly hot days please take care with BBQs to avoid starting wildfires and don't BBQ aboard your boat.
🌊 Finally most importantly, if you do fall in, try to stay calm and while the cold water shock passes.
Many of you already know the importance of water safety, but reminders like this can help to save lives.
Have a fantastic and safe bank holiday weekend.
In an emergency always call 999. To report other incidents or for other assistance contact Broads Control on 01603 756056.
