1,000 UK golf courses. 1,000 days. I must be off my golf trolley.

I lost my mum to dementia in January 2026. Golf got me through some incredibly hard times, the community, the focus, the friendships. It does that for people. Not enough people get the chance to find out.

So I'm going to play 1,000 different golf courses across GB mainland in 1,000 days. Every round filmed, every course reviewed honestly, no filter.

At every club I visit, I'm aiming to raise an average of just £1 per member, split between Alzheimer's Society and The Golf Foundation.

That's The 1000. Public launch Q3 2026, clubs on the tee Q1 2027.

Here's golf's easiest sustainability win. A tee made from upcycled coffee grounds that breaks down naturally, costs pennies more, and won Best New Product at the PGA Show 2025.

Every greenkeeper I've spoken to wants them. Most pro shops still don't stock them.

The piece looks at why that gap exists, and why retailers like Decathlon, American Golf and Sports Direct are quietly saying something about their sustainability credentials by keeping plastic on the shelf.

Worth a read:

The Easiest Sustainability Win in Golf: Why Biodegradable Golf Tees Aren't on Every ShelfAsk a head greenkeeper what they think of biodegradable tees and watch their face. Every one I’ve spoken to lights up. These are the people who manage the land, who spend their mornings picking plastic and spl...

I was mid-pre-shot routine on the 7th tee. Then I looked up! West Sussex has a true links course since 1889. Not enough golfers have heard of it. Littlehampton Golf Club firm fairways, pot bunkers in all the wrong places, and a sea view that stops you cold.

The approach does nothing for you.

A slip road off the A1. A disused McDonald’s. A concrete slab where a petrol station once stood.

Then you walk onto the course.

Hidden vistas you never expected. Greens that break nothing like they look. Fairways that send your perfect drive fifty yards sideways. And a Grade I listed hall that appears on the back nine like it’s been waiting for you all along.

Stoke Rochford Golf Club. Honest. Testing. Worth the detour.

Stoke Rochford Golf Club. A slip road off the A1, a disused business centre that used to be a McDonald's, and a concrete slab where a petrol station once stood. Not exactly promising. Then you walk onto the course.

Hidden vistas. Greens that break nothing like they look. Fairways that send your perfect drive fifty yards sideways without a second thought. And a Grade I listed hall that appears on the back nine like it's been waiting for you all along. Honest review now live on ChippedIn. 3/5. Worth the detour.

Honest review of Stoke Rochford Golf Club in Lincolnshire. A testing Hotchkin designed parkland that rewards patience. Rated 3/5 by ChippedIn.

Most parents buying junior golf clubs make the same mistake. They buy by age. We've just published a full guide to every set worth buying in the UK right now. https://www.chippedin.co.uk/post/junior-golf-sets-uk

Getting a child into golf starts with one question that most parents overcomplicate: what clubs should I buy? This week I resigned my membership at a golf club. My wife resigned at the same time.

No drama. No fallout. Just a quiet realisation that the club and I had opposing views on beginner golf, and that's fine.

I got involved with an active ladies beginner group at the club, from week two of their initial six week programme. Genuinely enthusiastic women, improving every week, turning up consistently. A second group was already signed up to follow them.

The club's decision was to close the programme after the current pipeline. No more ladies. No juniors. No wider rollout. Convert a handful to full members and call it done.

I understand the commercial logic. I just don't share it. Beginner golf isn't a recruitment funnel. It's a pipeline for the whole game.

Golf clubs have a responsibility to give back to the sport that sustains them. The ones that will be future success stories are those making genuine, ongoing investment in bringing new people into the game. Not the ones fighting their overdrafts for survival.

I've seen parents and grandparents out on the course with their kids and grandkids, and they are genuinely the happiest golfers you'll ever see. For me that's golf in its purest form.
