What can we say about Silverstone this weekend then??
Friday testing went well for all involved considering the horrendous temperatures! Albert had a developing problem with his car, first of all a PAS leak (again!) another pump swapped in before sessions and back out he went, leaks fixed but onto a flat spot between 5.5k and 6.5k rpm, this meant exiting corners and keeping up with traffic wasn’t the easiest task. Friday night saw some checks and adjustments ready for Saturday sprints, unfortunately, the problems seemed to persist through quali and both sprints, sprint 1 saw a position off 12th in class coming home in 11th, sprint 2 saw a position off 12th in class again coming home in 10th, a mega result for him considering the power issues he was having, there was less than a second separating the top 10 so as always its proper close racing. Saturday night saw more testing of parts, we adjusted the timing and found a small air leak, both of these rectified we were hopeful for Sunday. Qualifying saw him come home in a very respectable 8th (out of 36 cars) unfortunately, again with the same issues coming back! The race was one of the most challenging ones he has had! With a fairly early rear end shunt causing a safety car, Albert managed to stay on the black stuff but the car was not happy, we haven’t measured the rear toe bout it looks to be about 15mm out! Later in the race saw a desperate lunge up the left of the car into a corner, knocking the rear suspension out ad beating the doors and sideskirt! In summery of the day was the most challenging that Albert has had since he started, with a car that simply wont drive in a straight line anymore (it wouldn’t even winch onto the trailer straight!!) he brought the car home in 8th, simply astounding work, once again showing the talent of this young man!
Car 78 saw once again the Speed and Power team of James Poole and Charlie Devlin, testing went really well for these both and other than some tyre pressure tweeks and such it was all good and times were tumbling for both drivers. Saturday saw the sprints for them too, quali 1 saw Charlinr in the hot seat, a mega 6th place for him, beating off many other far more experienced drivers, with a fairly nice race without any big probs saw him bring the car home in 7th, some very fast drivers in front of him too, the times a little off as we were still battling heat like nothing else!
Quali 2 was the turn of Mr Speed & Power himself, he had a clean run coming home in 20th, this track is NOT a favourite of his at all! The race start was insane! Carving out many places off the line! He brought the car home in 17th, gaining places and having a couple of good battles along the way!
Sunday came, the boys sharing the quali, what came was some of the greatest driving from them, bringing the car home in 4th!! The race saw Charlie start, instantly gaining places, the boy getting himself into 1st, and having some fantastic battles on the way! At the first pit stop James opted to not get into the car to give Charlie the best chance of getting up the track, between the pit stops he got himself back up into first, all read for the second stop, again, another flawless pitstop from the Forty40 Team, James once again opted to stay out and give Charlie the whole race, once back out on track he quickly settled back into first before later in the race having some good battles with very experienced drivers, to everyone’s upset though a late in the race incident saw Charlie come together with another driver, spin and go through the drivers door of George Heler (glad he’s ok!) this put Charlie back in 6th across the line, what can only be said as the best drive this kid has had on his racing career, he was very upset for how it finished and will prob never see it the way we did that hen drove like a guy thats been doing it decades, this is only his 3rd trophy race ever! So proud of these two young guys for how far they have come in the short time we have had them with us.
Onto the one, the only Paul Offord! Friday testing went all good for hi, again, struggling with the heat like all of us! Some tweeks and adjustments saw the lap times being great (considering the last time ha was here he had a fairly big crash!) onto Sunday trophy for him saw him qualify in 29th and all safe in one piece. The race came and saw paul have a mega clean race, unlike most of the grid! Both pit stops went flawlessly and apart from some tyre pressures adjustments nothing else was needed, he brought the car home in 26th with some really great lap times from him, no damage and a happy driver!
As per usual, we are very proud of our drivers for what the achieve and everyone did so well this weekend coping with the heat and the stress! Thank you to everyone from Team Forty40, once again we couldn’t do any of this without you guys and a massive thank you to everyone else that helped us out this weekend.
