The museum sites of the Alvar Aalto Foundation, the Aalto House and Studio Aalto welcome visitors on guided tours to the snowy landscapes of Munkkiniemi!
Architect Alvar Aalto lived in the house he designed in Munkkiniemi, Helsinki, for a total of 40 years. The house was completed in 1936 in a part of the city that was built more spaciously than today, where Aalto lived until his death, in 1976. On the guided tour, the visitor can get to know the building’s many interesting details, material choices and Aalto’s life through the layers of time.
Studio Aalto, on the other hand, was completed in 1955, just a stone’s throw away from the Aalto House. The architectural office, which operated for 19 years in the Aalto House, needed more space to plan commissions and competition wins. Thus, in the building visitors get to know, for example, the production of Aalto’s architectural office, mainly from the 1950s onwards.
Welcome to peaceful Munkkiniemi!
