Tartu Maraton is already an adventure itself — but Estonia has so much more waiting around race day. 🇪🇪❄️
Welcome to part two of our top winter activities in Estonia.
After ice bathing, a horse sleigh ride and dog sledding in part one, we continued our trip in Kõrvemaa, Nelijärve Puhkekeskus — a winter paradise between Tartu and Tallinn.
This time, it got even sportier:
⛸️ Cross-country ice skating
With XC poles, XC boots and special long-distance skates, this activity feels surprisingly close to cross-country skiing — just on frozen lakes instead of snow. A great experience for the whole family, and even a fun training session.
🎿 Backcountry touring
Later that day, I was back on skis. Together with a local guide, we crossed a big frozen lake — quiet, open, and unforgettable.
🥾 Snowshoeing
Once we reached the woods on the other side, we changed equipment again. Snowshoeing was the perfect way to move through the endless magical forests of Kõrvemaa. Looking at these images, I can still feel the silence.
So, what about you?
Is the Tartu Maraton on your bucket list for 2027?
Make sure to spend a few extra days in this winter sport eldorado. You won’t regret it.
