Football continues to grow in Bhutan 🇧🇹

The Bhutan Football Federation (BFF) has increased its commitment to growing the game. It has climbed with resolute determination and enthusiasm, boosted by its embrace of the FIFA Forward Programme funding and other initiatives designed to bolster football in all corners of the globe - including its highest peaks.

Football in the Kingdom of Bhutan had its moment in the global spotlight back in 2002, when they featured in The Other Final. The two lowest-ranked national teams in the world, Bhutan and Montserrat, faced off on the same day that football's two most decorated nations, Brazil and Germany, contested the FIFA World Cup final in Yokohama, Japan.

The BFF has strategically invested FIFA Forward funds across the country to expand access to football and create meaningful opportunities for a population deeply passionate about the game. The crown jewel of the Kingdom's FIFA Forward spending is the spectacular headquarters and technical centre known appropriately as the Home of Happiness.

The BFF also has funnelled FIFA Forward funding toward additional artificial pitches, residential academies in Changjiji (boys) and Gelephu (girls), and the 10-team Women's National League, to which the BFF has committed more than USD 1.2 million.

Championing the game in Chile 🇨🇱

In recent years, Chilean football has experienced an unprecedented period of development and institutional growth. Working alongside FIFA, the Football Federation of Chilean Football Association (FFCh) has consolidated programmes that have become a benchmark for developing future generations of talent.

In October 2025, the FFCh unveiled the José Sulantay Silva High Performance Centre at the Quilín complex in the capital, Santiago. The project involved an investment of USD 3.2 million, with USD 3 million coming from phases 2.0 and 3.0 of the FIFA Forward Programme.

The centre boasts a FIFA Quality Pro-certified artificial turf pitch, floodlighting, a state-of-the-art gym, changing rooms, medical facilities and technical offices. The complex served as the main training venue for the FIFA U-20 World Cup Chile 2025™, earning the FFCh a Silver Award at the FIFA Forward Awards 2026 in the Americas.

FIFA’s support also helped to bring the National Youth Football Championship (U-18 and U-21) back following the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, with 43 professional clubs and 2,150 footballers taking part across the country.

With more than 3,000 kilometres separating the clubs between Arica and Puerto Montt, the Forward Programme, together with funding from FIFA’s COVID-19 Relief Plan, allocated more than USD 3 million to transport, accommodation, meals and health and safety protocols.

“Thanks to FIFA’s strategic support, the Football Federation of Chile has driven transformative initiatives that have strengthened infrastructure and talent development, promoted inclusion and helped consolidate the growth of football across the country.” - Pablo Milad, the Football Federation of Chilean Football Association President.

New Caledonia are ready to write a new chapter in their history 🇳🇨

On 7 September, they will make their debut at the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland and it is the first time they have qualified for a FIFA women’s global tournament at any age level.

Central to that progress has been the FCF Academy, comprising a women’s section launched in 2019 and a men’s in 2022.

With support from FIFA and the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC), it was designed to bring together the country’s most promising young players, identified from the age of 13, through a scouting programme, and give them opportunities such as overseas training camps. That drive was reinforced later the same year by the introduction of FIFA’s Talent Development Scheme.

Through the FIFA Forward Programme, that progress extends beyond talent identification and player development. It is underpinned by stronger infrastructure and more competitive domestic competitions.

The FCF Academy has been renovated to provide facilities suited to training, competition, and the development of both players and staff.

FIFA Forward funding has also strengthened national football and futsal competitions across men’s, women’s and youth categories, while supporting national-team activities and overseas travel.

Through FIFA Forward, the FCF was able to build its new headquarters, bringing its operations together and strengthening oversight of football development across the territory.
