4 weeks. That’s it. 🗓️

October 4 is closer than you think and whether you’ve been training since May or just decided to sign up this week, there’s a distance at Ted’s Run with your name on it.

2K for the fun runners. 5K for the classics. 10K for the ones who like a challenge. All of them at Kildonan Park, all of them for a cause that matters right here in Manitoba.

If you’re registered start tapering, stay consistent, and trust your training. If you’re not registered yet what are you waiting for? Registration closes September 30.

Here’s a training secret most intermediate runners get wrong. 🏃

You’re probably running too hard.

Not on your speed days — on your easy days. Most runners fall into what coaches call the “grey zone” — not easy enough to recover, not hard enough to actually improve. Just... medium. All the time. And it leads straight to a plateau.

The fix is the 80/20 rule. 80% of your weekly runs should feel genuinely easy — conversational pace, low effort, almost embarrassingly slow. The other 20% is where you push. Tempo runs. Intervals. Race pace efforts. That’s it.

The easy runs aren’t junk miles. They build your aerobic base, let your body recover, and make the hard 20% actually work.

Run easy more often. Race harder when it counts.

Ted’s Run has distances for every pace — 2K, 5K, and 10K on October 4 at Kildonan Park.

Melissa doesn’t run because she’s fast. She runs because she doesn’t quit.

Melissa Budd completed the Lean Horse 100 km, and what carried her across that finish line wasn’t speed, it was persistence. She’s learned that running isn’t about talent. It’s about continuing to move when every part of you wants to stop.

That’s the kind of runner Ted’s Run was built for. One step at a time, relentless forward motion, all the way to the finish line.

October 4 is going to be a great day, in part because of people like her. 🧡

Ten years ago, 192,600 Manitobans had literacy levels so low they couldn’t fully participate in society.

Since then, funding for adult literacy in Manitoba has grown by less than 5%.

That number hasn’t gotten smaller. And the gap between what’s needed and what’s funded hasn’t closed.

LiteracyWORKS and CanU are on the ground every day working to change that — one adult, one child, one learner at a time. Ted’s Run exists to keep them going.

A huge thank you to McNally Robinson Booksellers for supporting Ted’s Run for Literacy this year. 📚🧡

Founded in Winnipeg in 1981, McNally Robinson is one of Canada’s great independent bookstores — family-oriented, community-driven, and committed to putting good books in the hands of Canadians. A bookstore supporting a literacy race feels exactly right, and we’re grateful to have them in our corner.

Go pay them a visit  at Grant Park or The Forks and support a local business that believes in the same things we do.

Every runner has that one song that carries them through the hard part. 🎵

You know the one. It comes on at kilometre 3 when your legs are arguing with your brain, and suddenly everything clicks back into place.

We want to know yours. Drop your go-to race-day track in the comments — and if we get enough great answers, we might just build the official TRL 2026 race playlist from your responses. 👇

While you’re at it, check out everything you need to know about race day — route maps, start times, and more — at tedsrunforliteracy.com. Link in bio.

Meet Darcie. 👋

She is TRL’s Assistant Site Director, and one of the people who makes sure race day actually happens.

Darcie didn’t start running until she was 35. What happened next is what Ted’s Run is really about — she found a community, made lifelong friends, and never looked back. She even rescued her cat while trail running with Race Director Mike Bennett along the Red River. Found her right in St. John’s Park — the exact turnaround point for the TRL 10K. If that’s not a sign you belong to this race, we don’t know what is.

We couldn’t do this without Darcie. October 4 is going to be a great day, in part because of people like her.

Ted’s Run wouldn’t be possible without the people who show up before the starting gun goes off. 🧡

Our volunteers are the ones setting up water stations, cheering on runners, guiding people through the course, and making sure race day runs like clockwork. They’re as much a part of this race as the runners themselves.

If you’d like to be part of it, whether you’re a longtime fan of Ted’s Run or joining us for the first time, we’d like to have you on the crew.
