Valemount Area Recreation Development Association The Valemount and Area Recreation Development Association is a non-profit association, consisting of a range of local business and backcountry users.

Their key goals are focused on community and public education to help backcountry use and improve the backcountry experience for all user groups. VARDA assists in managing a Sustainable Resource Management Plan for our area the covers territory from Horsey Creek to Blue River. The SRMP was developed for:

•security of investments
•protection for public access to crown land
•and sustainability of growth for each outdoor recreational activity. In addition to the above, VARDA manages the Recreational Snowmobile industry for the Village of Valemount. We oversee grooming, manage trailhead staff and area maintenance. Much of our efforts are put towards rider education relating to ethical riding, wildlife sensitivities, safety and backcountry stewardship. As the association grows we will focus on further developing the other outdoor recreational activities that our valley has to offer. VARDA is fully supportive of the efforts and leadership of
Canadian Avalanche Association for improved snowmobile safety !

If you are new to visiting the trail system, stop in at the Valemount Info Center before your ride to pickup a trail map and get some local intel.

Today marks 20 years since I started working for VARDA.

It’s hard to explain what it feels like to look back on that much time, its actually extremely emotional. VARDA has been part of nearly half my life, and over the years it became much more than a job.

I’ve grown alongside this organization. I’ve made mistakes, learned a lot, met some incredible people and had opportunities and experiences I never could have imagined when I first started. I am grateful.

There have definitely been some tough days, but there have been far more good ones.

What I’m most grateful for are the people who have been part of it. The volunteers who just show up. The board members who have trusted me. The businesses and organizations that have supported us. The staff and contractors who have cared about the work. And the countless people who simply love these mountains and trails as much as we do.

I’m proud of how far VARDA has come, but even more thankful that I’ve been allowed to be part of it.

Twenty years is a long time.

And somehow, I’m still excited to see what we can do next.
