Athletic training arc complete! ✅ Here’s everything I learned going from strength & physique sports to apex! ➡️
I must have found a way to bench press my sprint because improving from a 5.4 to 4.6 is pretty crazy. And i mean look at that pec activation i was getting so it checks out.. 😂
I learned how deep the rabbit hole goes with regard to sprint form. Although adjusting the way we’ve ran our whole lives simply takes time even when you know what you should be adjusting. And hey just because it’s ugly don’t mean it don’t work 🤷♂️
Hit a 31.5” vert which is also a PR! I learned how much timing and rhythm mattered even for something like a max vertical jump.
You don’t just jump, your approach needs to be dialled, you need to engage your upswing at the right moment and you need to practice at the right distance and step count.
You need tons of reps in to make it automatic because it’s easy to blank out when you go all out 😂
The importance of prioritization:
Having only 6 weeks to properly prep i had to focus on some events over others since what i trained later in the workout was affected by fatigue. So i figured i’d have to take the hit on the broad jump and med ball toss
Unsurprisingly i improved the most on the sprint and vertical which i prioritized the most.
Sometimes we have to tactically take the hit on something rather than over extend and lose progress on our higher priority events (this can all be avoided with more than 6 weeks though 😂)
You can actually receive a lot of joy from the things you initially avoid
I was reluctant to train my broad jump because i’d do it in the middle/end of my workout while i was fatigued
But eventually once i developed better conditioning i could start seeing improvements in the event which changed my experience of training it
Maybe improvement is all we need 🤷♂️
Translating strength horizontally is surprisingly different from vertically
Exploding forward with my arms helped a ton and i needed to get my chest past my legs intially. But i still jumped a little higher than i should have after witnessing a lot of athletes keep pretty low.
Sticking the landing after a max attempt is pretty tough as well
