Judo (柔道, jūdō?), meaning "gentle way", is a modern Japanese martial art (gendai budō) and combat sport, that originated in Japan in the late nineteenth century. Its most prominent feature is its competitive element, where the object is to either throw one's opponent to the ground, immobilize or otherwise subdue one's opponent with a grappling manoeuvre, or force an opponent to submit by joint loc

king the elbow or by executing a choke. Strikes and thrusts (by hands and feet) — as well as weapons defences — are a part of judo, but only in pre-arranged forms (kata) and are not allowed in judo competition or free practice (randori).

🥋💐 Thank You for an Amazing Ju no Kata Clinic! 💐🥋

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who attended our Ju no Kata Clinic at Kawasaki Rendokan Judo Academy on July 26, 2026.
The clinic was conducted by Sensei Mitchell Kawasaki and Malgorzata Lampman, and it was wonderful to see so many participants come together to learn, practice, and deepen their understanding of Ju no Kata. Your enthusiasm, dedication, and positive energy made the day a great success. 👏🥋

We would also like to thank everyone who continues to support our Kawasaki Kata Team on their journey to the IJF World Kata Championships in Sarajevo this September. 🇨🇦🌍 Your encouragement and generosity have meant so much to our team and help make opportunities like this possible.

A special thank you to Valentina Rincon and Zoey McIntosh, who were happy to assist participants throughout the clinic. It was great to see them sharing their knowledge, helping others, and giving back to the kata community while preparing to represent Canada on the world stage. ❤️🥋

Thank you for being part of this special event and for supporting our athletes every step of the way. We look forward to seeing you on the tatami again soon!

🥋🇨🇦 Proud Moment for Our Kawasaki Rendokan Kata Team! 🇨🇦🥋
Yesterday, members of the Kawasaki Rendokan Kata Team who have been selected to attend the IJF World Kata Championships in Sarajevo as either kata athletes 🏅 or judges 👨‍⚖️👩‍⚖️ had the opportunity to meet with Ned Kuruc, MP and Shadow Minister of Sport 🤝.
During our discussion, we highlighted the unique challenges facing judo kata athletes, including recognition, funding, and support for those striving to represent Canada on the international stage 🌎🥋.
We appreciate Mr. Kuruc taking the time to listen to our experiences and learn more about the dedication, discipline, and excellence required to compete and officiate at the highest levels of kata competition 💪✨.
Thank you, Mr. Kuruc, for your interest and support of our sport. We look forward to proudly representing Canada at the IJF World Kata Championships in Sarajevo 🇨🇦❤️🇧🇦.
🇨🇦 🥋🏅🌟

It was my pleasure to welcome Dr.Daniel Bird, Zoey McIntosh, Valentina Rincon, Sensei Kawasaki, and Malgorzata Lampman to my constituency office before they depart for the World Judo Championships in Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina. I was honoured to recognize each of them with a Certificate of Commendation on behalf of the Parliament of Canada.

Representing Canada as both competitors and judges at a world championship is an incredible achievement and a testament to the dedication, discipline, and countless hours they have devoted to their sport.

We are incredibly proud to have such outstanding ambassadors from our community representing Canada on the international stage. We know you will represent Canada with excellence and make our country proud.
