Calories are a measurement of energy.
That’s it.
Not a measurement of whether a food is good or bad.
Not a measurement of whether you were “good” or “bad” for eating it.
Not a measurement of your worth, discipline, or morality.
But diet culture has tricked us into fearing calories for far too long.
The truth is, food is neither good nor bad because of how many calories it contains. Some foods simply provide more energy, and others provide less.
It’s okay to be aware of calories, but my hope is that awareness does not become another way to police yourself, shame yourself, or decide what foods you are “allowed” to eat. Instead, what if that information could be neutral?
What if it could help you honour your hunger, support your energy, and listen to the needs of your body without turning food into a moral decision?
Food is food. And you are allowed to eat.
