Meet the ocean’s master of disguise, the leafy sea dragon.

Found only along the southern and western coasts of Australia, leafy sea dragons are close relatives of seahorses. Their delicate leaf-like appendages help them blend seamlessly into floating seaweed and kelp forests, making them almost invisible to predators.

Did you know just like its seahorse kin, a male leafy seadragon carries its mate’s eggs until they hatch!

Despite their magical appearance, these creatures face growing threats from habitat loss, pollution, and climate change, which are damaging the seagrass meadows they call home.

By protecting coastal ecosystems and reducing pollution, we can help keep these underwater dragons thriving in their natural realm.

La nature prend parfois des formes tellement inattendues. En voici un bel exemple - un corail Éventail de mer! Vous vous souvenez, un corail est une colonie de petites bêtes (polypes) de la même famille que les méduses!

Nature sometimes takes the most unexpected shapes. Here’s a great example — a Sea Fan coral! Remember, a coral is a colony of tiny animals (polyps) from the same family as jellyfish!

🌊🏔 From Ocean Floor to the Top of the World

The very top of Mount Everest—the highest point on Earth—is made of limestone packed with fossils of ancient sea creatures. 🐚

470 million years ago, this spot was under a shallow tropical sea. Over time, shells and marine life settled into layers of rock. Then, about 50 million years ago, the Indian plate slammed into the Eurasian plate, crumpling the Earth and lifting that old seafloor into the sky—forming the Himalayas.

So when climbers stand on Everest’s summit, they’re literally standing on what used to be the ocean floor. 🌊➡️🏔

In South Korea, the sea opens twice a year for just 1 hour. This is the miracle of Jindo, when thousands of people cross the sea on foot. In South Korea, a special tidal phenomenon causes the sea to open twice a year, allowing free passage between Jingo and Modo islands for a short period of time.
