Wildcard Update

The Cobras take down the Bandits 7-4 to advance to the semifinals. They’ll face the well-rested Pirates this Friday at 7pm.

Still to come: Maulers vs. Diablos on Thursday. These two have history — they met in the finals last year, and now it’s do or die. The defending champs have clawed their way back from the 7 seed, and you can bet the Maulers want this one bad.

One more note: credit to the umpires for setting a new standard in the league — a full nine innings wrapped up in 2 hours and 33 minutes.

FOUR TEAMS IN. TWO TEAMS OUT. TUESDAY AND THURSDAY.

Wildcard Round 1 gave us everything.

Cobras 11 — Ravens 7. The Ravens led through six and had the Cobras on the ropes. Baseball is nine innings for a reason.

Bandits 19 — Donkeys 18. The Donkeys took an 18-14 lead into the bottom of the ninth and were three outs from the next round. The Bandits walked it off. Five runs, last frame, season on the line. Best game of the year.

Maulers 14 — Pioneers 7. The Pioneers had their best season in club history and went down swinging. The Maulers, runners-up two years running, look like a team that’s tired of finishing second.

Diablos 30 — Magpies 7. The Magpies came into the league brand new this year, put together a season nobody expected, and left everything on the field. The Diablos opened the year with five straight losses. Now they’re the ones still standing.

WILDCARD ROUND 2

Tue Sept 8 | 7 PM | John Fry BW #1
Cobras (13-4) vs Bandits (9-8) — the league’s best record against the team that just refused to lose.

Thu Sept 10 | 7 PM | John Fry BW #1
Maulers (8-9) vs Diablos (7-10) — a club chasing the title it keeps just missing, against the reigning EBL champs who started 0-5 and never quit.

Waiting in the semis: the Cardinals, and the Pirates — former SHRBL champions who know exactly what September is for.

Semis Sept 11-14. Finals Sept 17-20. All at John Fry BW #1.

Come out. Bring a snack. Make some noise.

LEAGUE STANDINGS UPDATE

The Pirates are flexing early with a perfect 4-0 record and a wild +50 run differential 🔥

Cobras and Cardinals are right behind them, keeping things tight at the top.

Middle of the pack is where it’s getting interesting — Maulers, Bandits, and Magpies all clawing for position with just a game or two separating them.

Meanwhile the defending champs, the Diablos, are off to a rough start at 0-5 😬

A heads up that a few rained out games have pushed some teams’ GP counts behind others, so don’t read too much into the gaps just yet — there’s a lot of baseball left to play.

WEEK 1 IS DONE. HERE’S WHERE WE STAND.

The Edmonton Baseball League came out swinging this week and some teams made serious noise right out of the gate.

The Pirates and Cardinals are looking like the ones to beat early on. Pirates haven’t dropped a game, putting up 19–2 and 12–0 in back-to-back outings. The Cardinals matched that energy with wins of 14–5 and 12–2. These two meet Saturday night at John Fry — that’s the matchup of the week.

Meanwhile the defending champs are having a tough start. The Diablos came into 2026 with a target on their back and so far the league has delivered — sitting winless through week one. Don’t count them out though, these are the reigning champs for a reason and they’ve got plenty of games to remind everyone of that.

The Maulers came into this season hungry after finishing as runners-up in 2025 and it shows. A 22–2 blowout Monday after beating the Diablos 10–7 to open the season — they are making a strong case that this is their year.

The Cobras took care of business with a 6–3 win over the Magpies and have a big week ahead facing both the Pioneers and the Maulers.

The Donkeys and Bandits are still looking for their first W. The season is long though — plenty of time to turn it around.

Don’t sleep on Saturday morning either — the Magpies and Ravens, the two newest expansion teams in the league, square off for the very first time at 10 AM at John Fry BW #1.

Games every night Friday through Tuesday across John Fry BW #1 and Gold Stick #3. Kicks off with Pioneers vs Cobras Friday night, a packed four-game Saturday including Pirates vs Cardinals and that Ravens vs Magpies first-ever matchup, and Sunday closing out with Cobras vs Bandits under the lights at 7:30.

Come watch. It’s only getting better from here.

The wait is over — Week 1 of the Edmonton Baseball League is here.

We kick off the 2026 season on Friday, May 15 at 7PM as the defending champs Diablos take on the Maulers under the lights at John Fry. Opening night always sets the tone, and this one should be no different.

From there, the rest of the league gets rolling all weekend:

Saturday, May 16 at 9AM — Pirates vs Donkeys (John Fry)
Sunday, May 17 at 5:45PM — Pioneers vs Bandits (John Fry)

Then next Friday, we’re right back at it with a double slate:

Friday, May 22 at 7PM — Cardinals vs Ravens (John Fry)
Friday, May 22 at 7PM — Cobras vs Magpies (Gold Stick #3)

10 teams.
A full season ahead.
And it all starts right here.

Whether you’re playing, supporting your team, or just coming out to watch some competitive baseball in the city — this is what we’ve been building toward.
