Hello everyone, All students should be aware of the following email.
Hi everyone,
There is an important issue that I thought I would bring to you all in hopes that we can get the word spreading before Academic Governance Council meets on September 19.
On August 29, Academic Governance Council’s Executive Committee met and discussed the Academic Schedule for the 2018/19 academic year. In that discussion, it was decided to make it so there were 36 instructional hours per course based on normal schedule patterns. In order to do this, they needed to change the schedule to start a little earlier and end a bit later, which meant taking two days off at the beginning of term. This means that school doesn’t start until September 10 potentially.
One thing that I proposed, which was turned down, was to take the two extra days off from the beginning of term and move it to the Fall Reading break to make it a full week. This would mean that we would start around September 5, as originally planned, and get a Fall Reading week in November.
Since AGC meets on September 19, and I will be bringing it up to the larger body then, I was hoping to get your support. If you think having a Fall Reading week would be beneficial to you for whatever reason, I would encourage you to speak up to those who have voting rights on AGC. This would mean starting with the Dean of your faculty. A simple email stating that you would like to have a full-week Reading break in the Fall can go a long way. It might be useful to state some of the reasons it would benefit you, but do whatever you feel comfortable!
I have attached a list of the current membership of AGC and would like to encourage you to send emails to any of the faculty that you know. Your voice really can make a difference!
If you have any questions, like the email address for your Dean, please do not hesitate to reach out to me. I am hoping that by working together we can bring this change about!
Cheers,
