🌧️ Wet Trail Reminder 🌲

With all the recent rain, Edmonton’s river valley trails are extremely soft and saturated right now. Even once the sun comes back out, many trails — especially clay-based and shaded sections — will take several days to properly dry out.

Riding or walking on wet trails can cause lasting damage. Deep ruts and footprints harden as trails dry, and going around puddles creates trail braiding that widens trails and damages surrounding vegetation.

Please help protect the trails by:
🚫 Staying off trails for a few days after the rain
🚲 Riding straight through puddles if you unexpectedly encounter them
🌱 Avoiding going around muddy sections
👣 Using your best judgment if trails still feel soft or leave deep tracks

We also ask everyone to give the new Edmonton Bike Park trails extra time to dry out. These fresh trails are still “setting in” and are especially sensitive to damage while they continue to compact and stabilize.

If you notice standing water on a trail, sometimes even a small scrape on the lower side of the puddle with your shoe can help water drain and speed up drying. We’re not asking people to head out with tools — just to help trails recover naturally where appropriate.

The good news: the trails will be great again soon — they just need a little patience from all of us. 🙌

We’re kicking off the 2026 Bike Park build season.

Our first volunteer day is Saturday, May 9 and we need your help to keep things moving.

We’re running two shifts:

Morning Crew: 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM
Afternoon Crew: 12:00 PM – 3:00 PM

Trail building, shaping features, wood work, moving dirt — no experience required. We’ll show you what to do.

Every shovel full gets us closer to riding.

The 2026 build season is officially on the horizon! 🛠️🚵‍♂️

Now that the snow is gone and the ground is drying up, it’s time to start thinking about our beautiful creation again. 2025 was massive, but we’re just getting started. This year is going to be all about finishing those lines, finding that perfect flow, and making more memories with the best community in the city.

Official Sign ups will be out soon—stay tuned for those dates later this week—but consider this your heads-up to get your shovels and bikes ready.

❄️ Winter Grooming Update – After the Big Snow

Edmonton received a serious dump of snow over the past week — and we’ve been out working ever since.

There was deep accumulation and heavy drifting across the pilot network. In some spots, you couldn’t even tell there was a trail underneath.

Here’s where things stand:

• Gravel Loop – Substantial improvement after the latest pass
• Oleskiw Meadows – 2 full passes completed
• Logarythmic – 2 passes complete and we’re back out again

There’s still a ton of snow out there, but conditions are improving quickly with each outing.

This focused network allows us to evaluate equipment performance, volunteer capacity, and long-term sustainability for winter trail access in Edmonton’s river valley.

How You Can Help

Foot traffic and snowshoes are actually helpful right now. Breaking trail builds a base — and once it’s packed, the groomer can shape it into that mint winter line we all love.

If you’re heading out:
• Ride low tire pressure
• Stay centered on the packed line
• Avoid skidding or digging holes

This pilot continues to show what’s possible when we invest in year-round trail access.

❄❄❄⛷Heads up to all trail users! Edmonton Nordic Ski Club is putting on a XC ski race this Saturday, February 7 and Sunday, February 8 at Gold Bar Park, from 6:00am to 4:00pm Gold Bar is off-limits, but don't worry—we’ve got you covered. ⛄

The new Snowdog has been put to work and just wrapped up a fresh groom on the Terwillegar single-track. As long as the temps stay on our side, it’s prime for a weekend shred.
