Slavko was born in Šibenik on February 10th, 1948. At the age of 17, he immigrated to Canada.
In 1969, Slavko and ten friends founded the Edmonton Croatia Soccer Club. Within the club, Slavko served in various roles which included but were not limited to: executive board member, coach, player, volunteer, and supporter of all Club endeavors.
In 1985, Slavko, as one of the original three investors, helped ECSC acquire a 20 acre farm field which has now turned into one of Canada's most notable private soccer facilities.
Beyond his contribution as a founder and builder of the ECSC, Slavko took great passion in promoting the importance of sportsmanship, and maintaining the positive image of the Croatian Soccer Community, the sport of soccer, and all those who play the beautiful game. This is perfectly expressed by his own words:
"I love the sport for what it has taught me - responsibility, commitment, teamwork, sportsmanship - and for what it has given me - a strengthened ability to overcome obstacles, my physical health, a release from the busyness of life, and most of all, my friendships."
There are no words to express the void left with Slavko's departure but his selfless contributions both on and off the field, his humble disposition and sincere appreciation for how the game has contributed to his life will inspire and be recognized by the generations to come.
"It is what Soccer makes of us - off the field - that really matters!" - Slavko Jerat
