Last weekend our aerial performers reminded us of something really important: creativity doesn't have an expiration date. I love bringing my daughter to these shows - she gets to witness so many adults continuing to take time for themselves to grow and explore, and I hope it inspires her to continue the same. 🥹
Many of us are taught that recitals, performances, costumes, and creating just for the joy of it are things we leave behind in childhood. But we know, that's not true, are doesn't end when high school extra curriculars end.
It lives on in dance studios, aerial and pole classes, theatre stages, music festivals, paint nites, community halls, and anywhere people gather to create something meaningful together.
To every performer who stepped onto the stage this weekend: thank you. Thank you for sharing your courage, your hard work, your vulnerability, and your art with us. You inspired not only the audience, but the people around you who are wondering if they're "too old" to start something new, take up space, or play again.
Thank you to the instructors that facilitate the magic of these shows. The weeks spent building, creating, and teaching choreography. The sleepless nights thinking you had so much more time left, and suddenly it's two weeks away and there's still much cleaning left to do 😅
The younger generation needs to see adults creating. They need to see us trying, leading, learning, performing, laughing, falling, succeeding, and expressing ourselves.
So whatever your thing is...dance, music, movement, painting, writing, building, creating..
Make good art.
And thank you for making ours a little brighter this past weekend.
