April 2026

Spring has truly arrived and I am amazed each day as my garden continues to grow and prosper. There are still some cool mornings but I have put my "winter" coat away at last as I no longer need it for my 6am walk with Maddie. I think what is most welcome is the earlier morning light. I did spend a considerable amount on plants and pots last year so this year it is just a matter of filling things out....

March 2026

March began with overcast and windy days with more drier days than last month. I was able to mow my lawn on the highest cutting level the first week. Planting was uppermost on my mind. I purchased a Dwarf Braeburn Apple Tree and a thornless Climbing Rose bush (Zephirine Drouhin). Being able to grow and pick your own fruit at home is both a pleasure and a luxury but it doesn't have to be difficult!...

April 4 – 11, 2026 – River Cruise!

Jim and I decided last year that we wanted to try a river cruise. We checked out several but found TUI to be the most affordable so we booked it in July 2025 for an April 2026 sailing of TUI Aria - Rhine Gems. A deposit of 300.00 per person was required at booking - we booked over the phone with TUI River Cruises with the balance due January 10, 2026....

February 2026

My Mimosa tree in bloom. February has been a very rainy, windy cold month. I understand from those in the "know" that this was not a usual February. The "usual" is what I experienced last year, a milder winter with less rain...a February when I was able to mow my grass. I found myself in the dentist's chair the first week with a fractured crown....

January 2026

Snow in Seaham! January 3, 2026 January has been a wet, cool and windy month! Storm Goretti came early in the month dropping a couple inches of wet snow that stuck around for a few days; first leaving ice on all the pathways and then melting into the grass. The grass continues to be green and is actually still growing, albeit slowly....

2025 Recap and Christmas Celebrations

A good portion of the first three months of 2025 were spent settling into my new home, figuring out what I needed, what I wanted to do and working that out. The delivery people certainly became familiar with my back gate. I learned about mould - how to deal with it and how to prevent it from occurring. I found the small quirks of the renovation that was done before I purchased the property and how to either live with them or correct them....

One year later…what I have learned

I took this photo in late December 2024 as I was getting ready for the holiday season. I have taken a new one (just below this) in late November 2025. 2024 Christmas House 2025 Christmas House What makes me smile is the fact that the grass is green and flowers still bloom in the hanging basket..in December! As a transplanted Canadian, that will always make me smile....

On an overcast July 6 (hoping for a quiet visit) we visited to Raby Castle. You can tour the walled garden and park for one price and then the castle itself for another. I was interested in the walled garden and park. Raby Castle is a short drive from Seaham and Easington (where Jim lives) and while Jim has been there numerous times, this was my first visit....

On Monday March 24th, Jim and I joined our friends, Paula, Peter and David, on an adventure to the city of Krakow in Poland. On our way We flew with Jet2 Vacations and a quick two and a half hour flight and we were in Krakow. Paula had kindly made the arrangements for our group so we were picked up at the airport and whisked off to our hotel - the lovely Leonardo Boutique Hotel, Old Town....
