Happy to host the Model Train Show this coming weekend!

We are excited to countdown to our very popular Beaver River Railway Model Train Show July 11 and 12, and to continue the theme, we want to share this postcard, circa 1912 (courtesy of the Ross Gray Collection), with you.

Built in 1906, the station stood at the west end of King Street.

While not of a particularly substantial size, it was more than large enough to handle the relatively small population of Beaverton at the time. It would have contained a waiting room and a freight room, with the station agent’s office located between the two inside the rectangular bay window.

Initially, the north side of the structure had a canopy extending from the roof to act as a shelter over the platform. For whatever reason, this design feature was removed several decades later.

1920s – 1960s – Passenger traffic gradually declined as automobiles and Highway 12 became the preferred means of travel.

1970s – The station building was largely boarded up but the platform was used by Ontario Northland for over a decade more.

Early 1990s – VIA Rail installed a small passenger shelter next to the old station after the building was no longer usable, but this was also shortlived.

1990s – The original station was demolished.
