BEYOND THE ARENA | MEET HUXLEY THOM!

Junior High | District 1

Student Vice President

Huxley has been a member of the Alberta High School Rodeo Association for three years and is making the most of her final year in Junior High!

She stepped into her leadership position because she wanted to give back, be a leader and help plan some fun things for her district.

For Huxley, rodeo is about meeting new friends, spending time with people who share her interests and heading out every weekend to improve in her events.

One of her favourite rodeo memories? Winning Pole Bending for the very first time in High River!

Her advice to younger rodeo athletes?

“Stay positive no matter what happens and keep a good mindset and you will succeed. Winning isn’t everything but being a good human and horseman comes first. When things don’t go as planned, be a goldfish and pick your sucker up out of the dirt and move on.”

Thank you, Huxley, for stepping forward to represent your fellow rodeo athletes!

BEYOND THE ARENA | MEET LYLA HARVIE!

We’re kicking off our 2026–2027 Student Leader Spotlight Series with Lyla Harvie from District 2 Junior High!

Lyla has been a member of the Alberta High School Rodeo Association for three years and holds two student leadership positions:

Student Vice President
Pole Bending Student Event Director

When asked why she wanted to take on these positions, Lyla shared that she wanted to help high school rodeo and take on a leadership role.

For Lyla, some of the best parts of the Alberta High School Rodeo Association are the scholarships, riding her horses and the friendships made along the way.

Her favourite rodeo memories include breaking personal bests in her events!

Her advice to younger rodeo athletes?

“Never give up, try your best and make new friends and memories.”

Thank you, Lyla, for stepping forward to represent your fellow rodeo athletes!

IMPORTANT REMINDER

AHSRA TRUCK & TRAILER RAFFLE

Our annual Truck & Trailer Raffle is one of the biggest fundraisers supporting our AHSRA members, and we are incredibly grateful to everyone helping sell tickets and to those purchasing them!

Unfortunately, scammers are always looking for opportunities to take advantage of our members, families and supporters.

We want to remind everyone to please use caution when buying or advertising raffle tickets online.

🎟️ A few important reminders:

• Please avoid posting photos of actual raffle tickets on social media. Even when ticket numbers are covered or edited out, images can be altered or used in misleading ways.

• Be cautious when using AI or photo-editing tools on ticket images, as these tools can unintentionally change important information.

• Always verify who you are purchasing tickets from before sending money or sharing personal information.

• If you are unsure whether someone is an authorized ticket seller, please reach out to AHSRA for assistance.

Our goal is simply to protect everyone involved.

We appreciate the incredible support our rodeo community continues to show this fundraiser, and we want to ensure everyone can purchase their tickets safely and confidently.

Thank you for helping us look out for one another! ❤️
