πŸ₯ŠπŸ‡§πŸ‡Ό BOBA SUCCESSFULLY HOSTS UNDER 19 BOXING CHAMPIONSHIPS

The Botswana Boxing Association (BoBA) successfully hosted the Under 19 Boxing Championships over the weekend at the University of Botswana, bringing together some of the country’s most promising young boxing talent.

The championship also provided an important platform for the Technical Team and Coaches Committee to observe, assess and recommend boxers ahead of the much-anticipated Region 5 Youth Games, scheduled for December in Maputo, Mozambique.

BoBA Secretary General Mr. Tshiamo Moalosi says prioritising boxing at this level is critical to building the foundation for future Olympic glory.

He said the championship formed part of the association’s selection and preparation process for the December Games, adding that Batswana should expect more than participation.

β€œWe want to compete and show our young champions. Our eyes are firmly set on an ambitious podium finish.”

BoBA SUCCESSFULLY HOSTS INAUGURAL O.P JINDAL BOXING TOURNAMENT

The Botswana Boxing Association successfully hosted the inaugural O.P Jindal Boxing Tournament on 15 August 2026 at Mookane Junior Secondary School.

The event was held in celebration of India’s 80th Independence Day and to commemorate the 96th birth anniversary of O.P Jindal, founder of Jindal Power and Steel.

As part of the celebrations, Jindal donated 17 punching bags to all compliant boxing clubs across Botswana to support grassroots development.

The tournament brought together boxers from across the country for a day of competitive boxing and community engagement.

President's Remarks – Shri O.P. Jindal Memorial Boxing Tournament

Distinguished guests, representatives of Jindal, community leaders, coaches, officials, boxers, ladies and gentlemen, good morning.

On behalf of the Botswana Boxing Association, I warmly welcome you to the Shri O.P. Jindal Memorial Boxing Tournament. We are honoured to celebrate the enduring legacy of Shri O.P. Jindalβ€”a visionary whose commitment to community development continues to inspire us today. We also proudly join our Indian brothers and sisters in celebrating 80 years of India's Independence, a milestone that reflects resilience, unity, and progress.

Today's tournament is about more than competition. It is about creating opportunities, inspiring young people, and taking boxing closer to our communities.

As BoBA, we intend to make Mookane and the surrounding villages a hub of boxing. We hope today's event plants the seed for the establishment of a Mookane Boxing Club and, in time, sees Mookane Junior Secondary School recognised as a ReBA Bona Ha Center (RBBH), producing champions in a structured and progressive manner.

This area has a proud boxing heritage, having produced outstanding boxers such as Oteng Oteng, the Setlalekgosi twins, Tebo Gasiitsewe, and many others. We believe the next generation of champions can emerge from here if we continue investing in our young people.

I thank Jindal Power, our partners, the community of Mookane, our affiliates, coaches, officials, and everyone who made this tournament possible.

I wish all the boxers the very best. Compete with discipline, respect, and pride.

Our Boxing, Our Pride. P**a!
