🎤 Our next Toastmasters meeting is shaping up to be an inspiring one!
We're looking forward to two very different but equally engaging speeches:

🔹 "A Loop in My Life" – An Icebreaker speech by a new member Basma Jedli. The Icebreaker is a special milestone in every Toastmaster's journey, offering us a first glimpse into the speaker's story, experiences, and personality. A great opportunity to get to know a fellow member better!

🔹 "Are You a Leader?" – Presented by one of our more experienced speakers Nadège Anyikoy Olenga. Leadership is often associated with titles and positions, but is that really what makes a leader?

Two more speeches are on the agenda... but their topics remain a surprise! 👀

Improvisation is not just for comedians. 😃

It is a practical skill you use whenever life does not follow the script: during a meeting, a job interview, a difficult conversation, a presentation, a Q&A session or an unexpected challenge at work.

On Saturday 30 May, Atomic Toastmasters invites you to a practical workshop designed to help you think on your feet, stay calm under pressure and respond with more confidence. 👌

The workshop will be hosted by Nayara, an aviation expert who knows from professional experience what it means to adapt quickly, communicate clearly and make decisions when circumstances change.
During this two-hour session, you will practise simple and effective techniques to:

✅respond more naturally when you are put on the spot
✅structure your thoughts quickly
✅speak with clarity even when you have little time to prepare
✅become more comfortable with uncertainty
✅use improvisation as a communication skill, not as a performance trick

Life in times of AI.

That was yesterday's theme brought by our great Toastmaster of the Evening, Lauriane Harrington. She conducted our meeting with grace, professionalism and always adding great value to us all.

Then, Keyla Calixe Lumeka conducted the Table Topics and gave many of the attendees, amongst whom members and guests, a chance to improvise on a spot a speech about Life in times of AI.

During the network break, we got a chance to catch up, talk and meet new people.

And then came the second part, dedicated to the prepared speeches. It was now up to:
Nadège Anyikoy Olenga
Vancesca Dinh
Nayara Lemes and
Panda LOKHAT

to dazzle us all with their 4-7 minute speeches.

When the time came to evaluate how we did, we were happy to count on Thilo Kreibich as the general evaluator, then on, Oussama EL HADI, Eric Camargo Keyla Calixe Lumeka and Gelnta Mouemin as evaluators and on Michael KAHLA, Hadrien Dony and Salim Abdelli as TAG(Timekeeper, Ah Counter and Grammarian) Team. At Toastmasters, we do believe that feedback is essential to growth and that's why we thank the evaluators and the TAG team for their valuable human return. In times of AI, we may wonder about the risk of running short of human input.

And that's why our meeting was so rewarding yesterday and deserved a special celebration afterwards.

Every great speaker starts with one small step.

At Atomic Toastmasters, we give each new member a copy of “Atomic Habits” by James Clear. It reflects something we strongly believe in: confidence is built through practice, leadership grows through action and progress comes from small habits repeated consistently.

Imagine introducing yourself with a name that sends people to the wrong place.

That was our situation.

For years, we were known as Atomium Toastmasters of Brussels. A strong name, with a very Belgian reference. But it also created a recurring misunderstanding.

Many people thought our meetings took place near the Atomium.

They do not.

Our current meeting location is closer to Cinquantenaire Park, and our club has evolved. The name no longer quite matched who we are, where we meet and how people experience us.

So our General Assembly approved a clearer, shorter name:

Atomic Toastmasters

Same club.
Same welcoming atmosphere.
Same focus on public speaking, leadership and steady self-improvement.

But now with a name that fits.

We meet every Monday in Brussels.

✨ Toastmasters Meeting Recap: Shifting Perspectives ✨

Our recent meeting took a creative turn with the theme “Shifting Perspectives”, reminding us how powerful it can be to look at things from a completely different angle.

🎤 Toastmaster of the Day: Salma Oulous guided us smoothly through the session, keeping the energy high and the transitions seamless.

💡 Table Topics Master: Dimta NAINGAYE challenged us to think outside the box with thought-provoking prompts. From “Convince me basketball is a horrible sport” to “Social media has more negative impacts than positive — so tell us the positives,” speakers had to flip their usual viewpoints and embrace new perspectives on the spot.

🗣 Prepared Speeches:
Vancesca Dinh shifted our perspective about the sense of belonging.
Raunak Kumar reminded us that free things can become the most expensive ones.
Thilo Kreibich presented a new perspective of the processes behind the counter of a pharmacy.

Each speaker brought unique insights and storytelling styles, reflecting the theme in their own way.

🔍 General Evaluator: Keyla Calixe Lumeka provided thoughtful and constructive feedback, helping everyone grow and refine their speaking skills.

🪑 Even the room setup reflected the theme as we experimented with a new arrangement to shift the atmosphere and encourage fresh interaction.

Overall, it was a dynamic meeting that pushed us to challenge assumptions, explore new angles and grow as communicators.
