August is the D'harawal Time of Wiritjiribin.
Wiritjiribin is the Dharawal name for the Superb Lyrebird, representing an important seasonal time and cultural totem in the Sydney and Illawarra regions.
The lyrebird's calls ring out through the bushland as he builds his dancing mounds to attract his potential mates. The marrai'uo (Gossamer Wattle) and the Boo'kerrikin (Sydney green wattle) flowers, which is a sign fish are swimming in the rivers.
The weather turns cold and windy with the beginning of the gentle spring rains.
