Update from Fridays escape to the Billabong with Mick Mark John Russ. Left Darwin in the dark,, and we fished the billabong with pretty good results .
The photos tell the story:
1. Barramundi — that classic silver slab from the timber edge, moody in the clear water but still willing.
2. Saratoga — caught mid-roll, all spots and attitude, went straight back after the photo.
3. Archerfish — the little sharpshooter sitting under the pandanus, stripes on show. We watched a couple spit at insects for a good ten minutes before casting.
Wildlife was everywhere else too. Sea eagle working the far bank, a big salty holding in the shade, buffalo moving through the paperbarks, and flocks of waterbirds lifting every time we poled around a corner. No lotus lilies out yet, just clean open water and pandanus reflections.
Best kind of Top End winter day. Rods, camera, repeat.

Another productive day on the Billabong with Sophie, Luke, Grace and Bill we caught fish and saw lots of wildlife and Two large crocodiles close to the boat ramp. Thank you for sharing your family holiday with me

Blue skies, hot bites, and good company. This week the billabongs turned it on for us 🎣
From prehistoric saratoga to chrome barra and every fish had us grinning like kids. Days like this remind you why we live in the Top End.
Grateful for these places, the fish, and the people I get to share them with. All carefully released to fight another day.
