May DTL Competition. 3 Events made for a long day. The weather was perfect, and the scores were top class as well.
Event 1. The yearly side by side event ended with 5 competitors shooting off for the win, with the top 5 posting very competitive scores. Martin Borg in his first competitive DTL event, and Don Harris possibly the most experience in the field showing the variety of competitors in the shoot off, however it was 3rd Jason White 24/25 +16/17, 2nd Darren Whipps 24/25 + 19/20 and 1st place and overall was Beau Brown 24/25 + 20/20 who ended up taking the first 3 places, with some ridiculously good shooting with their side by sides.
Event 2. 25DB/25PS, With the side by sides now put away till next year, everyone reached for the familiar under and overs, but the possibles proved elusive with 3 competitors stranded on a very competitive 99/100 requiring a shoot off to determine the winer. Mick Cook took 2nd in AA with Cesar Diaz, taking overall and first in AA Grade, after Darren Whipps ended up 2nd overall again and took first in A grade. Stephen Hellier prevailed in a shoot off for 2nd in C grade, getting around club regular Phil Allen, and gaining some great experience shooting under shoot off conditions along the way.
Event 3 15DB/15SB/15PS Threw up some interesting results. Most of the B grade field were tied 66/75 in a shoot off for second after Peter Strickland got around them all at the last minute with a late 70/75. With the light starting to fade, Melanie White won that shoot off to take 2nd in B grade. Robert Markey, Won C Grade, with Stephen Hellier winning his second Shoot off of the day to take 2nd in C grade again. Darren Whipps continued his fantastic form with a perfect 75/75, and was narrowly beaten by a single point in the overall shoot-off ending up 2nd overall to David White on a perfect 75/75+25/25
That concluded the day’s events. In what was a big day of shooting at Singleton. It was fantastic to see so many shoot-offs, especially with the C and B Graders gaining valuable experience and confidence in shoot off conditions that you just can’t get at a practice day.
The scores were very high and the shooting first class. The highlight of the quality of that shooting was Overall High Gun, for the regular monthly over and under program Darren Whipps only a single point down 174/175, and 7 points clear of the field for the whole program on 198/200 including the Side by Side event. Congratulation Darren, well done, that’s a massive result.
