Every creative has lived this moment 🥲

Client says “it’s a bit out of our budget” and you’re like “no worries at all, totally understand!”

Inside you’re spiralling into a 10/10 existential crisis wondering if you should just go work at a cafe and call it a day 😩🫠

Hearing “we went in a different direction” stings...even when you KNOW your work is worth it.

If you’re not careful, you start telling yourself...

“Maybe I am too expensive.”
“Maybe I’m not as good as I think I am.”
“The economy IS screwed, AI is replacing me and I’m ABSOLUTELY doomed. Doomed I tell ya!!!”

Imma stop you righhhht there...
Coz a client rejecting your proposal is not a reflection of your value or your worth as a human.

It’s a reflection of their budget, their priorities, or their understanding of what great work actually costs.

And sometimes...it’s just not the right fit. That’s cool.

So please, don’t let a “no” make it mean something about yourself. It’s normal, you’re not doomed and oh my goodness please don’t discount (!!!)

Nobody trusts the restaurant that does burgers, pasta AND sushi.

But most photographers are doing this by not niching down 👀

I’m about to say something mildly offensive to creatives.

Ready?

Some of you are hiding behind the “I’m just not the CEO type” story.

“I’m just an artist”
“I’m not good with numbers”
“I don’t want to market, I just wanna create”

And yeaaaah it sounds harmless and cute…

But it’s wrecking your business.

You cannot build a premium, profitable, scalable company while hiding out as “just the creative.”

Taylor Swift didn’t accidentally become a billion dollar brand.

She didn’t sit there like “I’m just the songwriter”

She became a Creative CEO. Ambitious entrepreneur and inimitable artist.

High standards, clear decisions, owning the numbers, protecting her calendar and leading like a boss.

Same creativity but a verrrrry different identity.
And THAT is the shift most creatives avoid.

Comment “CEO” and I’ll DM you my video where I breakdown what a Creative CEO is and how to become one in your business 💜

Ryan Gosling gave me business advice.

Well kinda...

There’s a scene in “Crazy Stupid Love” where Ryan Gosling looks at Steve Carell’s outfit and says:

“BE BETTER THAN THE GAP”

Iconic.

I often think of that scene when I talk about levelling up your business.

Because the best business owners know there is ALWAYS a gap. A constraint you have to bust through in order to get to the next level.

It could be your offer, capacity, confidence or your lead gen.

But there’s always something.

You can see it as a massive problem or a massive opportunity.

The faster you spot the gap, the faster you can fix it.

Your next level is on the other side.
