Kata of the Month, Ji'in 👊

Although it is no longer in the JKA curriculum we still keep it remembered in Castle Hill dojo.

After 8 dedicated practice sessions, our students took on the challenge of performing Ji'in on their own timing, demonstrating focus, spirit, and growing confidence in the kata.

Performing independently is a big step in Karate development, and I'm proud of everyone who gave it their best effort. Oss!

Friday night we came together for a special farewell dinner for one of our dojo family members before they move back to Japan next week. 🇯🇵

There were plenty of laughs, amazing food, great drinks, speaches and even better company. Nights like this remind us that our dojo is more than just a place to train, it’s a community that supports and cares for one another both inside and outside the dojo.

We’re so grateful for the friendships built through Karate and proud of how the Castle Hill community always shows up for each other. we are wishing you all the very best on your next chapter, you’ll always be part of the dojo family! 👊

A huge congratulations to our 5 newest 3rd Kyus! 👏🥋

These students have shown dedication, perseverance, and strong spirit throughout their training, and it was great to officially welcome them to the next stage of their karate journey last night.

Well done to all five students on this achievement. We’re proud of your hard work and look forward to seeing your continued growth in the dojo.

Last night we held our May grading at JKA Castle Hill Dojo.

A fantastic evening showcasing the dedication and spirit of our students.

The photos capture a great mix of kihon, kata, and kumite, along with strong focus and plenty of spirit, exactly what JKA Karate is all about.

The grading was overseen by JKAA President Gerald Boyle Sensei and JKA Castle Hill Head Instructor Robin Nicholson Sensei.
A big thank you to Gerald Sensei and Kerrie Sensei for staying the week to support the students before the grading.

Well done to everyone who stepped up and gave their best.

Great energy at JKA Castle Hill last night!

We were honoured to train under JKAA President Gerald Boyle Sensei at our advanced session. It was an inspiring session full of strong basics, sharp technique, and great spirit from everyone on the floor.

We are looking forward to another fantastic night of training with Sensei again tonight.

Jiyu Ippon Kumite this week at JKA Castle Hill

A key focus in our training is don’t give away your movement too early.

Too often, attackers “announce” their intent by leading with the attack making it easier for the opponent to read, react, and counter. Instead, we’re working on holding the attack until the last possible moment, staying relaxed and composed, then committing decisively.

Stay calm and centred
Control maai (distance)
Move without telegraphing
Strike with intent at the right moment

The goal is to catch your opponent off guard not by being faster, but by being smarter and more precise.

Strong basics, sharp timing, and disciplined ex*****on. This is JKA.👊

We’re excited to welcome back a very special guest to JKA Castle Hill! 👊🥋

JKAA President Gerald Boyle Sensei will be returning to our dojo for two nights of training. It’s always an incredible opportunity to learn from his depth of knowledge, experience, and passion for traditional Karate.

We’re looking forward to the insight he brings and the chance for all students to grow and refine their skills under his guidance.
