I was contemplating what to post and thought I’d just post some photos of the past few weeks when it dawned on me that this would be only 10% of the full story.

I always want to be transparent because I feel if it can help at least one of person feel less alone, then that’s worth it in spades.

It’s been hard to get out of the dark some days when postpartum hits like a dark fog, so I’ve been talking with Sven, my psychologist, friends and finding ways to slow down and grab the glimmers life has on offer. Luckily, when I look at my camera roll (I love to take a photo of anything that brings me joy), there are many of them.

Don’t compare your story to someone else’s because it rarely is as good as it appears. We don’t usually take photos on those hard days is all.

Matrescence: a profound identity shift where a woman re-evaluates her life, priorities, and purpose after having children.

I am still experiencing the effects of Matrescence and find it so hard to hear people not wanting children to change their lives when they have them because I had a great life before kids and I can very safely say that my life is so much richer thanks to them to the point of redirecting my career to be focused on helping children of all ages. This advice isn’t meant to be for everyone but more than anything, I’m speaking to my fellow Mother Archetypes out there. ❤️

I truly believe that people do the best they can with the tools they have at their disposal and their ability to challenge and face their wounds.

Doing the work to notice, acknowledge, hold and move through our childhood wounds is more than hard, it can feel on the edge of impossible. I know that it takes a very strong, brave and vulnerable person to do the work and not everyone is ready to do it. It’s very hard to hold judgement towards someone for not doing something you are able to do but I invite you to hold compassion for yourself and the other side by side.

The most freeing place to be is when you realise that we are all flawed in our own ways, that they didn’t know any better AND you do know the effects of abusive behaviours and you can do better for your children.

What a way to honor your inner child!

Reparenting yourself WHILE holding your children. It’s A LOT! Please don’t feel you need to do this on your own.

Have you ever caught yourself talking about a painful memory from your childhood or maybe even a recent event and then said “but they had a bad childhood” or “but they had a cruel parent” as if that gives them permission to treat you badly?

I hear clients do this all the time and I say this to them, so I say it to you now.

One of the most important roles we play as therapists is being your mirror. It’s very hard to do that on your own.

Happy Monday! Sometimes we just need to keep it light and connect with our inner child. H

You deserve love, respect and kindness. You can have all that and be at peace with your family situation. Will it continue to hurt? Likely. But it will no longer consume you. I know this to be true as I’ve not only helped people achieve it but I have too.

The work never ends but it gets easier to do.

You don’t have to do this alone.

I did this today and it helped me so much. Have you tried this?

I know when my clients are ready to slow down sessions or finish therapy (for this stage in their lives) when they learn to do this 4 step process on their own. When they come to a session and tell me how, when and why they did it that week. Because when they get there, they’re basically doing my job themselves.
