The Australian WC squad isn’t as simple as it looks like on paper. This team is competent enough to defeat any side in the World despite the fact these conditions aren’t favourable.
Justin Langer has got some real work to do and that is fitting the square peg into the round hole. As of yet just 6 players are carrying no objections namely Aron Finch, Mitchell Marsh, Glenn Maxwell, Adam Zampa, Ashton Agar and Patt Cummins. The drafting of 5 other players depends on the arbitration of batting and bowling combinations.
Even If Langer puts his trust more in pacers to balance the side, the inclusion of 4th pacer is dubious as Mitchell Marsh can serve the purpose if need be. Then who other two will go for the final run with Cummins? Its a tough call, isn’t it? Lets say 5 bowlers including 2 spinners have been chosen.
The inclusion of Warner comes with a wicket keeper in lower middle order. Since Warner’s batting form is in some serious crises, a wicket keeper batsman(Wade or Phillips) might be an option who can walk down to crease with Finch.
The real conflict lies in the middle order and this can be the break or make point for the team. In form batsmen Mitchel Marsh and maxwell has already cemented their places by scoring heaps of runs recently. If Langer is thinking of stretching out the middle order to squeeze in both Smith and Stoinis, then which fast bowler is he letting down?
If he’s not trading off with a bowler then maybe we have an answer here, David Warner.
