Wanted to borrow....

EDIT:

Thanks guys, huge response in no time at all. Looks like we have this sorted. Thanks all for the messages πŸ‘

We're chasing a HT HG speedo faceplate or complete speedo in 200 KPH.

We're getting some new artwork drawn up in January-February, and this is one piece we're missing.

If you happen to have one of those and would like it restored free of charge, please shoot us a message. If you're happy to send it to us, we'll strip it, service it, blast and repaint it, reface it, recolour the needle, calibrate it for you and send it back home.

We won't be able to send it back until around February though, once the new faceplate decals are printed.

Get in touch if you can help please ✌️

Stripping, servicing and repairing a bunch of HT/G instruments at the moment and thought we'd share this.

These are HT HG fuel gauge backing plates.

Considering these two models were only released for 2 years (26 months??) there were quite a few changes to just the fuel gauge backing plates alone.
(There is also another we have here not pictured, it's still in the cluster. Not going to strip it out for a photo. It'll be described down further)

Top to bottom.

Early HT with aluminium needle, same type of needle as HK.

Mid model HT. LH return on the plate at 45Β° instead of 90Β°. Maybe to increase more instrument illumination? Plastic needle.

Later HT and most of HG. No red E for empty.

Last of HG. Mid 71 manufacture. Bastards of things. Removal of the needle required to service the instrument and face πŸ‘Ž

Late 71-72 manufacture. NOS replacements sold as spare parts. (Will fit VDO & Flexdrive Instruments units)

Unsure of date as not date coded, but confident of early Melbourne built vehicles between HT HG. (Red E, made from aluminium not steel like the VDO units)

Not pictured.
Same as the last one, Melbourne vehicle but without the red E for empty. (We have some here, but they're still in instrument clusters) Can only assume later model run of HT HG?

We've recorded 12 different versions of HK instrument clusters and seen pictures of a 13th. (It may not have been in production, promo pic maybe)

Won't interest most, some might find it mildly interesting.
Do I count rivets, fck no. It's almost 2027. Urethane is king. Stronger than rivets and nothing to see let alone count.

Am I interested in the manufacturing process of years gone by, how and why they changed their processes due to advancement, cost, supply etc... πŸ’― %

Eric picked up his HK GTS instruments, fascias and tacho yesterday. He seems happy with them.

The instrument cluster is a NOS piece that he bought. We converted it from 120-140 MPH using a NOS speedometer faceplate. The instrument was then recalibrated. The lens was badly damaged from the previous owner not storing it correctly. It took some polishing but it's fine now.

The tacho was restored using our restoration kit with new faceplate, lens, bezel and housing. It was also fitted up with a new digital circuit board compatible with HEI and points ignition.

The woodgrain inserts he purchased years ago from Paul Mason in SA (long before we started producing our own) It's nice stuff, would recommend. Paul's done a nice job on it.

Looking forward to seeing it on the road Eric πŸ‘

We've had a bit of a run of HKTG radios lately. Morgan's HK and Darren's HG push button units here all working and looking new again.

But, we're also working on a busted HK radio that we have, grafting in a new Bluetooth amplifier. (Second picture)

We're also working on replacement speakers for original radio amps and aftermarket radio and Bluetooth amps. As usual, Darren's HG will be the test mule 😁 (along with the tail light housings)

The plan is, with a small PCB, some diodes and relays, the aftermarket stereo that he fits in the glovebox will run the speaker assembly in stereo (albeit pointless as both speakers will be slide by side in the middle of the dash so will very much sound as though it's mono, but hey) and once turned off, will switch power to the original radio and run through the same speaker assembly but in mono.

That way he'll be able to listen to his favourite radio station, Zinc FM, and hear the entire ABBA, Michael Jackson and Adele collection twice a day, every day in FM Stereo and switch to the original Air Chief AM radio to hear the Vege report, stocks and finance and his favourite talk back on the ABC in mono.
How good is that, just turn one off and the other one on and everything switches automatically πŸ‘Œ

Anyway, that's just a work in progress. We'll keep you updated.

(Sometimes you need to do things just to keep your sanity. Restoring the same fascias, instruments, consoles, making the same woodgrain inserts over and over, sends you a little batty. You need to do different things. They're often not needed nor required, but just because you can, you do. Our work ute is a classic example 😁)

We'll keep you posted on the progress of the Bluetooth and speaker assemblies. πŸ‘
