A Facebook memory popped up today, a photo taken by a gentleman who lots of you will know and remember as John Pizzey.
I first met John in the very early days of TLS, he frequently had small, odd jobs for me and we got along well. John was fluent in witty banter, and I enjoyed every interaction we ever had.
John was also jointly responsible for inviting me along to my first Rove Ride as the traveling mechanic - something I remain incredibly proud of and remember fondly.
John also invited me along to participate in the Bullsbrook - Toodyay ride, when I was still very new to road cycling. I brought precisely one water bottle and no food. Someone handed me a banana out of pity on the return journey.
John snapped this photo of me, sat on the bitumen in mismatched socks, utterly spent but very happy with the ride. I'd never really done a big hills ride like this before. It was a pivotal moment for me and I really, really started to love cycling after this.
By now I'd normally have a point or a punchline to deliver - but instead tonight I find myself just enjoying the memory of some of the wonderful people I've met over the last almost-decade.
Thank you John. 🤝
