15 YEARS AGO… NEW YORK CITY 🇺🇸🔥

Almost 15 years to the day, 50 WA firefighters made the trip to New York for the 2011 World Police and Fire Games.

Different city. Different Games. Same camaraderie.

Meet Don Bryant - a retired Corrections Deputy with 36 years of service at the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office, a bench press champion, and at 68 years old, one of the most unstoppable competitors in the World Police & Fire Games community 🏋️‍♂️🇺🇸

His Games story began in New York City in 2011 - in the middle of Hurricane Irene. He stepped up to the bar, competed in the bench press, and finished last. So he came back.

Belfast 2013 - Silver, Fairfax 2015 - Silver, Los Angeles 2017 - Silver, Chengdu 2019 - Gold, Rotterdam 2022 - Silver, Birmingham 2025 - Gold. And Perth 2027? He's already got his sights set 🎯

But behind every lift is a story that means far more than any medal. Don's best friend, Sgt. Lewis Cain, was the man who introduced him to the sport. They trained together for 17 years. Since the passing of Lewis there has not been a single competition since where Don hasn't dedicated his lift to him 💙

Don has spent years passing on everything Lewis taught him - training men, women and teenagers in the sport, and serving as a strength trainer at the Washington State School for the Blind, producing state and world record holders along the way.

That is his greatest achievement. Not the medals. The people.

Perth 2027 will be his first time in Australia - a trip he's been waiting on since hearing about the 2007 Adelaide Games. And he has a simple message for anyone still on the fence.

"Don't think about how far it is to travel, or can I get the time off - just do it. You will not regret it for one minute."

AUGUST RECAP 🌏🔥

It’s been a HUGE month for the Perth 2027 Games Management Team.

From Roleystone to Noosa, Darwin to Victoria – and as many places in between as we could squeeze in – we’ve been out spreading the word that the World Police and Fire Games are coming to Perth 📣

We hit AFAC and ACWAP, visited agencies and first responders across the country, and even jumped online to connect with our communities in New Zealand and the UK.

And the response has been huge.

We’ve now surpassed 6,000 registrations from around the world and we’re on track for an incredible Games in March 2027.

But Australia – we want MORE of you 🇦🇺

This is our Games. On home soil. A chance to compete alongside thousands of first responders from around the world without having to travel overseas to do it.

Some sports are already FULL and others are getting very close to capacity. If you’ve been thinking about registering, don’t wait until your event is the next one to close.

🏒 ICE HOCKEY IS FULL!

We’ve been blown away by the level of interest in Ice Hockey down under – and this is shaping up to be one of the sports you won’t want to miss at Perth 2027.

With 24 teams locked in, including 20 from North America, three from Australia and one from Europe, Cockburn Ice Arena will host nine days of action on the ice.

And there’ll be some serious talent hitting the rink, including former NHL players who are also first responders, competing alongside athletes from around the world.

Even if you’re not competing in Ice Hockey, make sure you get down to Cockburn Ice Arena and catch some of the action. This is going to be one to watch.
