Strength training does more than build muscle – it plays a crucial role in strengthening bones, making it an essential strategy for preventing and managing osteoporosis.
Bones are living tissue, and much like muscles, they adapt to increased loads. Regular resistance exercise encourages bone growth and helps maintain bone density.
Stronger muscles developed through strength training also enhance balance and coordination, which lowers the risk of falls – a leading cause of osteoporotic fractures, especially in older adults.
Beyond bone health, strength training improves insulin sensitivity, boosts energy levels, and increases metabolism, all of which contribute to an overall better quality of life, particularly for those at risk of or living with osteoporosis.
My specialised BBB (Bones Balance Brains) classes will kick off from Tuesday, 3rd February.
Small Group Sessions are scheduled for Tuesday and Thursday mornings at 9:00 am, as well as Friday afternoons at 4:00 pm.

It's time to hit some weights again.
Weight training is essential for healthy bones, preserving muscles, boosting metabolism, improving balance and posture, and better insulin sensitivity/blood sugar regulation.
Here are 4 of the best exercises to hit all areas (Legs, Back, Chest, Core) .
Squats - body weight or with added weights. Remember to push those hips back.
Row/pulls - retract the shoulder blades and keep the shoulders down.
Push up - either on toes, knees or against a bench. Just keep the body straight
Bicycle legs - keep back flat on ground and do long slow leg extensions.
Aim for 4 rounds of 10-15 reps each exercise.

As we wrap up for another year, John and I would like to give our sincere thanks to all who have allowed us to be part of their fitness journey this year.
For some it’s been a “jumpstart” and some education on how to make important dietary changes or correct gym techniques. For others it’s become a long term lifestyle choice.
Whichever category you fall under, we appreciate you.
We celebrated with some “Shedfit shenanigans” a couple of weeks ago (sorry for the delay in sharing pics). Thanks to the cleveland_tavern for accommodating us. If anyone is looking for a venue to host a special occasion, I highly recommend them.

John and I will be taking a short break from today but will be back Monday 5th Jan and look forward to setting new goals with you all for 2026.. no matter how big or small.
In the meantime, we wish you all a very Merry Christmas.
Enjoy every moment with your loved ones and stay safe.
