This is really NOT OK. Even disregarding the financial loss, as a small business ourselves we can tell you that it's heart breaking and paranoia inducing.
If you have friends that are helping themselves to things without payment from artisans and small merchants at fairs, call them out on it.
They're stealing sweat from brows, dreams, and trust.
Thank you to everyone who came to see us at Newcastle Medieval Festival over the weekend!
While we had an amazing time (despite the wind gusts), we realised while packing down that we had about $800+ of our handmade items stolen. All of our products are handmade by us, or by our friends within Australia. Some, like my mushroom hats and art dolls, take me hours - and the collective total of hours from the stolen goods well exceeds 72 hours.
We believe someone may have come through and swiped a whole heap of little items in a group during the actual event, as our booth was locked up during the evening.
This is very disappointing. Please if you ever see someone stealing from a small business - shame them! The financial aspect is one thing... Those who know us, will know that we are always happy to skill trade (a good medieval barter!), set up a payment plan, or customise something so you get what you want within your budget. You don't have to steal from us!
We don't want to have to set up cameras in our stall - there is nothing whimsical about surveillance.
We'll be running a live sale in the next week or so, to try and recoup some of the costs here. Keep an eye out for that 💕🧙🏻♀️✨
