It’s been a bittersweet week this week. Tomorrow is my final day as a swim teacher at Swimcare Moonee Beach. Monday I start a new role as Facilities Manager at Macksville Memorial Aquatic and Fitness Centre.

For the last 6 years Swimcare hasn’t just been a job. It’s been a family and it’s been a home. Many families have become friends, many children I look at like my own. I’ve seen hundreds of kids grow from 3 month old babies to 6 year olds that are fantastic swimmers. I’ve seen kids that could barely swim straight go on to squad and do very well at their school swimming carnivals. There have been kids terrified of the water become brimming with confidence. I’m both proud and honoured to have been part of the team that has helped all of grow in their swimming. I’m not going to lie, there’s been some tears, mostly mine, as I’ve said my goodbyes.

Starting this new chapter I just want to say to all the wonderful Swimcare families, thank you for trusting me with your children. This isn’t goodbye, it’s I’ll see you around.

I appreciate each and everyone of you.

All my best,

Shane 🏊🏊‍♀️🏊‍♂️

🚨 PSA for our swim fam 🚨
We’re giving the pool noodles the day off this Labour Day long weekend 💪🌊

📅 Closed: Monday 6th October
📅 Back to business (and backstroke): Tuesday 7th October

Enjoy the extra day to perfect your land-based swimming skills (aka napping, BBQ-ing, or chasing kids around the backyard). 🏊‍♂️🔥🥩

Have a happy & safe long weekend – we’ll see you back in the pool on Tuesday! 💙

💦 WE’RE HIRING! 💦
Looking for a job where splashing is encouraged, goggles are a fashion statement, and high-fives are part of the uniform?

Swimcare Moonee is on the hunt for a Swim Instructor to join our team! 🏊‍♀️✨

What we need from you:
• Reliability (we love a last-minute cannonball, but not a last-minute cancellation)
• A commitment to stick around long-term (our swimmers get attached to their teachers… and so do we 🥹)
• A big smile, a positive attitude, and the ability to make lessons fun while teaching life-saving skills 🌊

What you’ll get:
• A workplace that’s more pool party than office cubicle
• Endless “dad jokes” from the pool deck
• The chance to help little legends go from doggy paddlers to confident swimmers 🐠

Sound like your kind of gig?
👉 Apply now and come make waves with us at Swimcare Moonee!

Introducing ANNETTE 🏊‍♂️🤿💦

Annette has been teaching at Swim Care for almost four years and brings with her a depth of knowledge and practical expertise to the centre.

As a child she learnt to swim simply by watching other children have swim lessons but until her mid 40s could only swim breaststroke. It wasn't until she was enticed into a fun triathlon that she realised that there was more to swimming and has never looked back.

"I was extremely fortunate to find swim coaches who understood the art of swimming efficiently, they instilled in me the need to practice over and over again, to understand how my body and the water could work beautifully together, how good technique was key to whatever I wanted to achieve, be it safety, speed or distance swimming".

That fun triathlon was just the start an athletic career that lead her all the way to the Ironman World Championships in Hawaii, to run the Great Wall of China Marathon and swim the Hauraki Gulf from Rangitoto Island to the mainland so it's no surprise that her motto in life is 'Anything Is Possible'.

"When it comes to teaching ANY age-group to swim I'm passionate about passing on my love for the water, with a very healthy dose of respect.

As a swim teacher her primary goal is to ensure that EVERYONE is capable of saving themselves IF necessary, once that goal is achieved, THEN the real fun can begin".

When Annette's not teaching she's the Australian correspondent for TRT World News, works with her husband Allan to produce features for SBS Business News, is Coffs Triathlon Club's swim coach and in her spare time does CrossFit where she'll be competing in the Masters Final in October.

Introducing SHANE 🏊‍♂️🤿💦
After a well deserved 10 month hiatus, travelling our beautiful country, Shane is finally back!
Shane has been a dedicated swim teacher since 2017, following a career change from his previous role as an army veteran. After gaining experience at other swim centres, he was drawn to Swimcare in July 2019, appreciating its focus on small class sizes and genuine care for each child.

He thrives in the squad environment, where he enjoys seeing the progression of skills and the transformation of students as they grow to love swimming — both for fun and competition. Shane’s favourite part of the job is witnessing the journey of each child, from their first strokes to developing confidence in and out of the water.

If he could instill one value in every child, it would be to never give up — even when it’s hard.

If you have swam with Shane over the years, feel free to share the memories, he would love to see 🙌
