This week at 1st Merimbula Scout Group, we had the privilege of recognising and thanking our local first responders alongside Kristy McBain, Federal Minister for Emergency Management.
Representatives from the SES, RFS, Marine Rescue, Water Police, Ambulance Service, and the Salvation Army Emergency Services joined us for a fantastic evening of learning, appreciation, and community connection.
Our Joey Scouts enjoyed a special reading of Remembering Our Triple Zero Heroes, helping them understand the important role first responders play in keeping our communities safe. The Cub Scouts put their skills to the test with fire hose target practice and learned about the equipment carried on a fire truck. Meanwhile, our Scouts worked with SAES (Salvation Army Emergency Services) to set up a "Feed a First Responder" emergency catering operation and gained an insight into supporting communities during times of crisis.
Members also had the opportunity to explore an SES vehicle, learn about emergency response equipment, and hear firsthand stories from the volunteers and professionals who serve our region.
The evening concluded with a delicious burger dinner prepared by our older youth members and plenty of stories and conversations shared between Scouts and our guests.
A heartfelt thank you to all of our first responders and emergency service volunteers who generously gave their time to spend the evening with us. Your dedication, service, and commitment to our community are truly appreciated.
